What is the most played song in the world? – Special Holiday One Hitter

by birtanpublished on July 2, 2020

Imagine loving a song so much that you want to hear it over 75 times a day for over a decade

That is Australians and "Torn"

"I'm all out of faith, this is how I feel I'm cold and I am shamed, lying naked on the floor"

As of 2011, Torn had been played over 300,000 times on Australian radio

which sounds like a lot until you remember that "Torn" is a banger, and you should be so fortunate

as to have heard it 300,000 times

"There's nothing where he used to lie, my inspiration has run dry That's what's going on Nothing's right, I'm torn"

When I first stumbled on this fact, I was like, "Cool, Natalie Imbruglia rocks! That makes sense"

But then you start to wonder what are the most played songs outside of Aus?

And 75 times a day is a wild statistic So what about 380 times a day?

"Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away"

In the United States, "Yesterday" by the Beatles has been played over seven million times on the radio

since it was released in 1965 The Righteous Brothers actually have that beat,

with "You Lost That Loving Feeling", which between radio and TV, has received over eight million plays

I'm not sure if that counts every time that Goose had Maverick's back

"She's lost that loving feeling"

"She's lost-? No she hasn't"

"Yes she has"

"She has not lost that lov-"

"Goose, she's lost it"

"Mav, come on"

"I hate it when she does that"

Except neither Maverick nor Paul McCartney actually hold the worldwide record

Because holy hell, this song has been played a lot

"Ooh la la! It's a small world after all, it's a small world after all, it's a small world after all,

it's a small, small world"

You kind of expect to get stabbed by a haunted doll at the end of that, right?

So, despite being so sweet it actually veers into very disturbing

"It's a Small World," may be the most song ever

Across three continents, that tune has been played over fifty million times

"It's a small world after all, it's a small world after all, it's a small world after all, it's a small, small world"

What do you think? How many souls have been lost to that song? What could hear fifty million times

over the course of your entire lifetime? Let us know in the comments and be sure to subscribe

for new episodes of This Exists every week I hope you've enjoyed our Special Holiday One Hitters,

and we'll be back next week with a full proper episode that I personally am very excited about

and then the week after that is our hundredth episode, so that'll probably be good

Be excellent to each other
