Watch BEFORE Doing Next Honda Oil Change Save $400+

Do not do an oil change on a Honda with an aluminum oil pan until you watch this video Bryan's Mobil 1 hey I'm Brian for Brian's Mobil 1 I want to show you something that can happen if you're not careful with the oil plug either when

You go to take it out or when you put it in when you go to take it out if you want to go counterclockwise don't use an impact and there's close quarters with the frame on these minivans so you don't want to use something that you just burn

And hit into it because it's backing out it can get crooked because that subframe is gonna push it you know this one looks like it's doing good but it's actually stripped out it's over tightened these are the threads that came out of the

Soft aluminum oil pan this is from over-tightening more than likely you're gonna have problems with over tightening when you're putting it back in so it's important to just be patient and usually it's not the first time that you tighten

It unless you're just out of control but it's usually there'll be an oil leak or something right and you've got this crush washer that goes on to the plug and what people will do is instead of replacing the crush washer they'll just

Keep trying to crush one that's already crushed when this happens and it rips all the threads out then they're really crushed note the washer the person the owner whoever did it this is kind of fun right here let me show you it's fun for

Me because I'm not the owner of the van it's like an aluminum spring but it's kind of little springiness to it so all you got to do if you over fork it you just take this put a little bit of glue on it and then just stick it back in

There where it came from see no problem there I fixed it unfortunately that's not gonna work nor is it gonna hold be fun to try to screw that back into it as we give it a try it just extracts it that's all that happens

So the way to fix this the best way to do it is to get a new oil pan if you take a pan off there are things that you can do that you can buy something like this that steel but it sticks out both ways so you thread it bigger for a

Bigger plug which you ought to just stick a bigger plug in if you find a system like that oftentimes these kits cost as much as a new oil pan or close to it or even more depending on the quality of the kit and

Of course the quality of kit is going to greatly affect your experience and success and having a good outcome most likely you're going to just do a new oil pan or you'll just never hear the end of it because you won't be able to snug it

Up enough to crush that crush washer that's the key right there bear in mind this is a steel plug that's really hard and then this is a soft a little bit of a magnesium or some kind of alloy well pen why do they use that gosh dang it

You know this is going to be a 400 plus dollar repair to replace an oil pan like this so the dealership wants 240 bucks for it the time on its a couple of hours watches is a steel night it's a stainless steel to watch closely this is

A really soft metal so if you have a really hard metal you know it's like that saying okay he talks about somebody who like kills bees with his hands you know whatever some black guy from Africa they're really cute accent so what do

You doing so tough when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object basically something has to give and what gives in this case is that soft metal of the oil pan and that's why we end up with that little aluminum spring thing

Over torque it it just rips it right out like that let's go to the van let's show you what it takes to get this out I've got a couple of tips and tricks for you remember the frame that I said if you're pulling it out and you hit this it can

Make it go crooked if somebody screws that up it's because this is angled and they go to take out the plug and their impact or you know pneumatic device hits this and it turns it at the last minute so that when you go to put it back in it

Goes in crooked and cross threads this way interesting huh more often than not it's just because the crush washer wasn't replaced they torque it and torque it instead of and it's already pre crushed you can't crush something

That's already crushed right and so then the threads give up and fail anyway you got two big bolts here everything's fourteen millimeter as far as exhaust goes there's three here you got to use some penetrant there's

Three here there's two here then there's another three over here you got drop the exhaust and you've also got to drop the subframe so this is 17 millimeter 17 and 17 this job isn't very technical but it just takes some time and some patience

You've got to clean all the old gasket maker out because you don't buy a gasket for these and the reason part of that is because you have to seal across these surfaces because you had a little plate on there and then you've also got the

Timing not the timing pump the oil pump and whatnot on the front so rather than having to do glue and then a gasket and everything you just use gasket maker for the whole thing import gray is the best stuff to use if you use Permatex right

Stuff black it's gonna be hard to get off but man is it gonna seal up good get the oil pan in and out you take this motor mount down 17 millimeter socket I just put a 13 millimeter since you don't use that on a Honda wedge it in there

While I prybar it down I've got a big pry bar for this I'll show you in a sec and then I take a little pry bar and same story here this guy has been completely removed and put back in and this one has been loosened down and I

Stick the pry bar in sideways and that's just about enough this is the pry bar that I use and the number four it's a gear inch and it's 1/8 triple – oh I've got a link in the description if you want the specs and price on that show

More and they'll be in there but the subframe down is easy to get in and out despite the cross right here I don't call it crossmember it's not across nowhere it's the subframe it's pretty easy you lower it down and

You can clear going back to here then you rotate up and then lift it so it just goes to the transmission but not quite there you're using the cavity that's here to get past this because it's nice and deep you can go that way

And then you go back in after you've got your gasket maker and everything just how you like it you stick it up like this rotate it the same way it's close but it's actually pretty easy it's not too bad
