Top Budget Smart Home Tech Under $50! (2019)

by birtanpublished on August 23, 2020

I'm excited to be back with another episode of smart home under $50 and the last time I did this price point it did extremely well so I want to thank you for the support on that and I'll leave a card to it so you can go and check it out that was my version for 2018 so I

Wanted to update for 2019 because I think this is the perfect price point for people that want to get started in smart home so let's not waste any time and let's get right into it first up are these smart light switches by LeGrande

And you might have already seen this on a channel because I've teamed up with them to show you how they work and also how they fit into my home so make sure you check that out but for under $50 this could be the most cost effective

Way to get full lighting control over your entire home because like I said in the video my kitchen has six bulbs just on one switch so if you were to get six smart bulbs that could be really really expensive where you can spend less than

$50 and get yourself a switch to have that full control so what I love about this is the clean design it looks modern I love the way it looks and also it's a physical switch so when you're not using it it's exactly the same it's exactly

What you're used to and you get full voice control with Amazon Alexa and also Google home and you can set them into routines and schedules and you can also control the light switch from anywhere in the world through the app because

It's Wi-Fi connected the setup is really easy right through a QR code there are a bunch of different configurations available in single pol three-way dimmer switches also a bunch of different colors as well to fit your home best

Because why should a smart switch look ugly there's no point in that lagron also makes smart plugs which are perfect for Christmas trees for lamps and also for setups so if you have a TV setup plug your strip right into this and get

Control you can turn that off and on you can put them into routines and everything else they show up through the app so they work just like the smart light switches do I've been able to test two different versions there's a single

Button one that just lets you turn it on and off and then there's two button version here that gives you dimming capabilities either through the physical buttons or through the app so if you put this on a lamp with any type of dimmable

Bulb it will work and the one thing that I really appreciate about all of their products is that these are good-looking products they're modern they look good on the wall and a lot of smart home products just

Really looks that good so Lagrange's industrial design it's an a-plus lagron to be coming out with a lot more smart on products this year so I'm gonna leave a link down to their entire radiant collection so you can see what fits you

Best in this price point when it comes to cheap voice assistance these two are still on top specially under $50 this is the Google home mini which I show it off last year is still the same device but it's still a really good choice but

There is the new echo dot this year this did get a redesign I think this is the third generation now so the design is more curved which looks so much better in my opinion it looks a lot more modern you get better speaker you're getting

Better microphone pickup so if you're into amazon then i would definitely pick up one of these because it does look a lot better there's gonna be debates over Google versus Amazon but it really doesn't matter which one you pick up

They both do great they both have good compatibility so you're gonna be able to run your entire house with these this absolutely no problem but what I want to show you is how to make these look really clean on your setup because I

Found a couple of mounts especially for the echo dot so you don't have wires and stuff everywhere this is the total amount and I really like this one I guess the one thing that I would say that I don't like about it is that you

Do see a little bit of a wire sticking out here at the bottom but overall it matches the colors on whatever color that you try to get up the dot it looks really cool on the wall this looks so much better than just having wires

Everywhere so this looks a lot cleaner the total mount keeps a circular shape it's more compact than the second one that I'm going to show you which is the sport link so this one will not show a wire at all but it's a lot taller so

Maybe on a place like this in my kitchen this one looks so good but I think that this would be fine if you're putting it lower closer to the floor so let me know which one that you think looks cleaner the total mounts or the sport link the

One thing I'm gonna add is that the cable management here on the sport link is a lot better than the one that's here on the total now it's just a lot cleaner on the back and it's just easier to funnel that power cord here in the front

Let's just say that you already have a dope speaker that you love using everyday or that you have an AV system that you want to add some smart functionality to so then you can look into the echo input so all this does is

That this Bay we just ads Alexa to any speaker or AV system that you can think of so basically in this speaker here this is an LG but it already has Google assistant built-in but what you can do

Is you can connect this through bluetooth or through an aux cable which is cool so this is what makes it flexible for any system but you can actually link it up by bluetooth to give it

Alexa capability so let's go play some music by J Dilla shuffling songs by J Dilla on Amazon music the next thing I want to show you is a smart power strip by Tekken and I actually just stumbled upon

This because I was doing my research on Amazon I wanted to see if there was a viable and cheap power strip that had voice assistance support so most of these have terrible reviews it looks like the same design that they're

Copying over and over again and other manufacturers are selling it but this one actually had good reviews so I jumped in and actually it's not bad for 28 bucks here you're gonna get individual control over every single

Socket that's in here which is kind of cool that it's not just all on and all off what you can do if you want to but what I like is that every one of these are individually controlled so if you have maybe like a monitor or then you

Have like a lamp on this side you can control those and that's pretty cool and also you have USB support right here and you can also turn that on and off so if you want to do some automation on a desk set up I think this is a go for 20 bucks

Let's finish this up with some lighting if you already have a Phillips u hub these are really good and they're under 50 but if you're trying to get a hub or starter kit these will not do if you've been following the channel then you know

I'm a big fan of life fix because you don't need a physical hub you have the Wi-Fi controller built right in and usually these are the brightest bulbs that are on the market right now and I do really like the mini bulb because if

You do have lights that need to be smaller that goes into a lamp that is form-fitting then these will absolutely work they're about 35 bucks they do have a day in dust version of this which doesn't change colors and they're about

25 bucks but I do have to say that I'm having some connectivity issues still with lye fix so I've been looking into some other manufacturers and I kind of stumbled upon this tp-link one here it's the same kind of smart changing bulb and

It still has 800 lumens it still has the Google assistant and Amazon Alexa support and it has the Wi-Fi controller built right in as well and this thing is only 20 bucks so that kind of makes me want to test all of these different

Bulbs that are out there so what I'm gonna do is I'm going to put together all of these different bulbs that are less than a certain price and I can tell you that all these ones that I'm showing you now definitely work and

There's also some other lights here some Wiz lights that I want to try as well and a couple other manufacturers so let me know these are all solidified in this price range and they work including hue but let me know which one of these that

You want me to take a look at more what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna round all of these up test the performance of these and see which ones are actually worth it but if you buy any of these right here for under 50 bucks you're definitely

Gonna get a good experience I hope you enjoyed this episode let me know which product was your favorite and what price point that you want me to hit next I think I've done a hundred 200 so feel me to go above that or if you want me to go

Even lower than that let me know in the comments section and also anything that I've shown you today is gonna be linked in the description section so if you're interested in picking any of these things up that's where you're gonna find

It so subscribe for more smart home stuff there's gonna be a lot more tours I'm moving into a brand new house so I can't wait to build that ultimate smart home that I've always wanted to build and I'm going to share that with you

Very soon so make sure you subscribe hit that notification bell and I will see you in the next one
