They’re BACK – CORSAIR 4000X RGB Case Review

by birtanpublished on October 4, 2020

good people i'm dmitry i gotta be honest i was not expecting to like the new case releases from corsair and they're going through a bit of a brand redesign the font on the corsair is different the sales have changed slightly and the new yellow not a fan of the new yellow i like the older slightly more vibrant yellow while the new yellow is muted but leaning towards the greens it is really interesting though that with this new brand direction the case direction

Feels fresher it feels like the old corsair that we used to know in terms of delivering beautiful quality and kind of wanting to stand out and so this is where the new 4000 series of cases comes into play we have three models the 4000d the 4000d airflow and the one that i have here the 4000 x rgb price-wise you're looking at 79 for the 4000 d and the 4000 the airflow which is not bad at all because you're competing in the airflow segment

And the case itself is pretty excellent but the 4000x rgb that 40 premium gets you the three rgb fans at the front and the corsair lighting node core if you were to buy that separately the equivalent thing is the sp 120 rgb kit which has the three fans and the lighting note core so the 40 premium isn't too bad but as the case itself 119 dollars it isn't very competitive at least i don't expect it to be the most popular within the 4000 series i expect the 4000d airflow to be the

Sellout because at 79 dollars it is competing directly against the be quiet 500dx and also the p400a from pantex so let's see exactly what this new 4000 series of cases offers and whether or not it should be your next mid tower case right after this the new gala had all-in-one coolers by liam lee combining premium materials for a beautiful package to cool your intel or amd cpu with black or white color options available both with tasteful aluminum

Housing and complementing 120mm argb high static pressure fans and you gotta appreciate proper length fan screws the water pump is excellent with easy installation cool pattern with vibrant lighting control with the hub or via your motherboard and rotatable housing to match your orientation and don't forget the aluminum magnetic cap for a different look check out the new galahad all-in-one coolers by liam lee down below all right so first of all i want to say that working with the 4000 x

Rgb reminded me of the early days of corsair like with their obsidian series and obviously this case kind of follows in the footsteps of the obsidian in terms of clean lines those case feet the the front paneling here too size-wise i would consider this to be a standard mid tower basically identical to the be quiet 500dx normal size nothing too large nothing too small all models will come in both black and white and i really like the white

Approach here with the gray accents so you don't have black and white you have white and gray so not only the pci slots but that whole front panel and the feet and now they're adding their brand color into it as well with tiny yellow slivers on the corsair text on the top dust filter for example and tiny rubber grommets around the side panel thumb screws it's not my favorite color i'm gonna be honest with you but i appreciate the consistency and i

Also appreciate the consistency of all the ventilation patterns so not only the pci slots on top of the power supply shroud but the bottom top and everything kind of feels cohesive and it seems like all the teams talk to each other and this case feels solid from both a design perspective and a build quality perspective too the black model is all black with really tinted glass side panels for that dark out effect so that's why i really

Went ahead with the white model because not only does the rgb help to spill on the interior but i feel like the white and gray look so much extra fresh i'm tired of just black boxes the brand colors continue into the top io as the usb port is colored in yellow that's a first for me but why did they have to follow the pattern of giving us only the single usb type a port it's great that we have a gen 2 type c in there i'm not going to complain about

That but we have that full connector for the motherboard and only a single usb type a at the top the front glass panel on the xrgb model simply pops off behind it we have a really fine dust filter with 4000 x model name which i'm quite impressed to see simply because we don't normally find the model name of the case somewhere on the case and behind it we find the triple rgb fan array which are the new sp rgb elite fans

As you can see they're beautiful and can be configured to whatever color or effect you like because they are connected into the lighting note core which i thought at first was a fan controller which as you can see kind of looks like one but no it's a lighting note core that is sole purpose to control rgb so you do have to plug the fans all three of them via the four pin pwm connectors into your motherboard so that is up to you and the note core connects to your motherboard with a usb 2 cable

And then you install the iq software and from there you have all the control the fans are capable with max rpm of around 1400 with a pleasant sound profile at full blast take a listen the power supply dust filter removes from the back nice and simple the top dust filter is your standard magnetic flexible one that you can remove and here we have the space for a 280 mm radiator and their respective fans or a 241 with the dual 120 fence as well

And as for the inside we've seen this sort of layout before it's super safe atx motherboard support or eatx if you move the cable cover slightly forward which is super easy to do now the corsair rapid route cable management system is just a fancy marketing term for that curved plastic bit that collects all the io cables at the top and just your standard common velcro straps all along the way it's a good system but with a fancy name the dual ssd brackets at the back can be moved on top of the power supply

Shroud pretty standard stuff you want to showcase your ssds and the bottom hard drive cage with two slots can be moved slightly forward to give you more clearance for the power supply or removed completely if you're not using any three and a half inch drives now what i find strange is the cutout and the power supply shroud for the front radiator so it's only enough to house like a simple 25mm radiator and a set of fans nothing and push pull especially if you're doing 360 at the front

The assembly procedure was flawless and took about 10 minutes to complete the whole system including cable management and by the way the side panels are interchangeable so if you want to showcase your beautiful cable work with that glass panel you can do so and as for the interior i like the cable bar and i like how high it is so your usb cables your sata cables are not touching it so they just exit freely same thing with a 24-pin cable there's an optional vertical pci mount with dual

Slots but it's fairly close to the side panel and no riser cable is included for the price of the xrgb model it would have been fantastic for corsair to at least include the vertical mounting plate that you install on top of the power supply shroud just to have some value add for the more expensive model and finally the temperatures for the x rgb model are not fantastic simply because we have that glass side panel blocking airflow even though it's spaced out from the fans

I mean still not ideal so the 4000 the airflow model is probably going to be a really good performer because when i remove the front glass panel we do drop both the cpu and gpu temperatures quite significantly and then further when i removed the dust filter that actually drops our gpu temperatures even further so the case has cooling potential as long as you remove the front glass panel barrier and if you're using the 4000 the airflow that will be a totally different story

When we compare the 4000x rgb versus my entire case tag uh in its stock configuration it's at the bottom of the chart nothing special there but i expect the 4000 the airflow to perform similarly as this case without the front glass panel which would bring the 4000 series cases into a really competitive space temperature wise but as long as you have two fans in the front for intake and maybe one for exhaust because that does help with gpu cooling for my concluding remarks the 4000 x rgb

Is a really pretty enclosure i mean glass at the front what do you expect right temperatures will suffer but the 4000 the airflow which was supposed to come instead of my black 4000 x rgb so i'll be testing that later make sure to stay tuned for that sort of analysis and see what type of temperatures we get versus everything else that is available in the market for 79 dollars that is airflow focused but i will give corsair a thumbs up on the 4000 series release because

Design wise it feels consistent build quality is excellent and the building assembly experience is flawless plus i really like what they did with the white model incorporating some gray accents which i think would have looked really cool on the black model too my only complaint here with the price is that the x rgb seems a bit too high when compared versus the p 500 a argb model which is only ten dollars more but seems to offer a lot more in terms of airflow and you can find the p400a

With the triple fans under 100 so not only does this case not perform well thermally to what you should expect for 120 dollars for triple fan configuration but other cases in the market that are pushing towards airflow like beat this case out of the water in terms of gpu and cpu temperatures now of corsair had released the 4000x airflow edition where the front can be just replaced with something or an airflow panel should be included with the xrgb model

Then you'd have a beautiful value add of having either something that looks really pretty and kind of standard with the glass or swap it out if you want high performance but we don't have that here so that's kind of really unfortunate but stay tuned for my update when the 4000d airflow comes into the studio i'm dimitri thanks so much for watching check out this other relevant content let me know what you think of this 4 000 series release in the lineup from corsair i

Like the new naming scheme i think it will simplify things because the eclipse the obsidian the graphite series from corsair that was a bit too complicated so hopefully the number scheme moving forward should satisfy all right guys see
