Hey pop quiz what kind of world do we live in a stupid one the answer is a stupid one what daily tech news in a way that doesn't suck of course you do that subscribe button and turn on notifications so you don't miss the next episode Oh what's going on guys welcome back to front page tech of course show that gives you our latest tech news one geek that is me to another that is you happy Monday hope you're doing swell hey thank you for all the support on the last episode it feels so good to be back thank you for keeping the toilet seat warm for us toilet squad for life news alrighty so first up for the day's story

Numero uno if you use the internet chances are you're using Facebook or Instagram one of those services or both probably both and if you use those things you can't use these things when I show you this emoji what do you think of how about this one when I show you this one what do you think of and finally what about this one what do you what are you thinking about right now what do you see be honest did you think of naughty things you thought of naughty things didn't you well because you thought of naughty things Facebook and Instagram are banning them

Yes I'm not kidding this is this is real life they are banning these emojis well okay so technically you can use them but you can't use them the way you want to use them know what I mean Facebook and Instagram have both updated their guidelines that banned the use of emojis if used as a smile expression on their platforms can I even say expression on YouTube if on Facebook or on Instagram you use these emojis in a special manner or to imply something naughty you'll be flagged like again this is real life you will be flagged and it will qualify as smile solicitation what

What is even happening okay boomers to clarify for everyone let me explain these are the rules okay these are the rule just so we're all clear here interfering in an election cool actual breeze also fine emoji of an eggplant abso-freakin'-lutely not don't you dare okay so this next one is a bit of a doozy people were absolutely losing their minds over this yesterday you may have seen it maybe you didn't YouTube is updating their Terms of Service it's like effective sometime in December but we got a preview you can see them now

You can see what Terms of Service will be going into effect you've probably been notified about it you definitely didn't read the Terms of Service because who does that anyway everyone has their Apple puckered about one specific certain thing this is it towards the bottom under account suspension and termination you'll find this line terminations by YouTube for service changes YouTube may terminate your access or your Google accounts access to all or part of the service if YouTube believes in its sole discretion that provision of the service to you is

No longer commercially viable okay so you may have your own ideas about that we've got we've got people jumping to basically two different extremes right now on one side you have people like Ford Fisher tweeting like YouTube is probably over it's been a lot of small steps but this is the end as of December 10th YouTube will delete channels that are no longer commercially viable how could a channel that's demonetised be commercially viable broadcast yourself is finished so first of all he's a freaking idiot but that's one extreme that's one side of this and

Unfortunately because it's the Internet and this is what people do that's the site that a lot of people are jumping on because conspiracy and YouTube is evil and wants to deep platform everybody but then you have the other side people like our friend Adam Taylor from E post Vox saying this isn't what that means this isn't even new this is Terms of Service for end users not the guidelines for creators this is basically a workaround for saying ad blockers could get you shut down by removing your access to YouTube because they can't make money from you

Okay so obviously that's the other side this is way more of a defense of YouTube but listen both sides of these are flawed first of all come on people this does include everyone on YouTube this is not excluding creators this isn't just the end user like just viewers but this also is not a direct attack on creators like others are claiming this is how YouTube defines the service as of right now this is what YouTube's TOS says right now these Terms of Service apply to all users of the service including users who are also contributors of content on the

Service so there you go those are the creators it goes on to say content includes the text software scripts graphics photos sounds music videos audio-visual combinations interactive at blah blah blah blah creator stuff now they've shortened that they've condensed that for the new version of the Terms of Service that everyone's going crazy about it will be effective in December this is what it says thank you for using the YouTube platform and the products services and features we make available to you as part of the platform collectively the

Service the service allows you to discover watch and share videos and other content provides a forum for people to connect inform and inspire others across the globe so the service is like everything that YouTube does across the platform and the people that this is addressing is everybody using the platform not just the viewers not just the creators literally all of us so here's the thing this is not as bad as you think but also it could be as bad as you think the real issue here is that this is all super vague which is ironic because YouTube is updating their Terms

Of Service in the first place because they wanted to make the tos easier to read dad ain't got in what this is that did not work effectively if YouTube isn't making money off of you or doesn't see a path to do so they may terminate your excess to services or terminate your account and it's at their discretion which is semi dangerous here that's where things get fuzzy but it's always been that way and they'll probably never define that stuff for us so yeah this could mean that if you're a viewer that's using an ad blocker you could

Lose access which i think is fair I mean I get using adblock for when it's necessary I personally do I use adblock for necessary stuff it you just need to online a lot of places for malicious ads or ads to just ruin an experience but that's not the case on YouTube and when you block ads you're watching this stuff for free you're using the platform for free and not using the platform as intended you're trying to work around it use an ad blocker and if they decide to cut your access oh well and this is also vague enough to include creators that are creating content that isn't deemed

Advertiser friendly this covers that aspect too so if the content isn't commercially viable advertiser friendly then you could lose some or all access which does not necessarily mean that they will remove and delete your account indie platform you it most likely just means that you'll be d monetized removed from the partner program not have access to that part of the service which if you've been paying attention that is not new that's been happening that's not a new bottom line these are terms of service it goes like every other Terms of Service on every website ever that

You never read it's all lawyer talk it's all legal mumbo-jumbo that allows YouTube to protect and save their asses in a legal situation it's not some crazy new change that's coming into play that we all got to worry about in fact there's pretty much nothing to worry about here I mean my only issue here personally is that this is just too vague and too flexible and if YouTube is trying to make it not that way and be more clear and transparent about stuff this is not that it's so flexible and so fluid that it allows people to push the whole conspiracy like YouTube

Is trying to attack creators and trying to deep platform people or censor them which by the way I am NOT claiming does not happen because it most certainly does but specifically is absolutely nothing to worry about but it is YouTube's fault here for not being clear enough and because it's not clear enough that allows idiots online to bend these words to fit whatever narrative they want so YouTube if your point here is to be more clear be more transparent and avoid like this now would probably be a good time to either update these to make them

More clear or just make a statement to clear this up okey dokey that is it that's the episode I know only two stories today but we packed a lot of information in the episode so if you liked it or you learned something hit the like button if you hate to my stupid face the dislike button works too if you're new here subscribe and I will see you guys to marry you but
