Should you wait on the New iPad Pros?

by birtanpublished on May 14, 2021

Don't get me wrong I'm super excited to try out the new iPad pros next week but there's this brewing buyer's remorse guilt that's bubbling beneath us and it's making me wonder if maybe getting this new iPad pro could be a mistake if there's new ones coming on the horizon so let's weigh the options now so here's the dilemma I found myself in and the more I thought about it the more sense it made but a lot of the things were excited for with this new iPad pro a lot of the big changes a lot of what everyone's talking about isn't actually about the new iPads themselves in fact most of the new attention comes to this

New magic keyboard that's not even shipping yet it's not gonna be available until May but the good news the news I'm actually really looking forward to because it gives me some options down the road and I'm kind of leaning more one way than the other is the fact that these new magic keyboard cases for the iPad are compatible with the 2018 iPad pros as well that means that a lot of the excitement we're talking about between cursor support and being backlit the iPad being able to float getting that extra USB seaports I'm really excited to try out a lot of that stuff

But none of it really requires the new 20/20 I pad Pro and maybe having Apple release both at the same time as how they kind of get your attention on the new iPads but what are we really getting outside of just this magic keyboard accessory we'll know for sure once I get this new iPad next week but it's making me think that waiting might not be such a bad idea with so many analysts and leakers with decent reputation saying that there's one of two possible options happening by the end of 2020 so some reports have suggested that Apple is working on mini LED displays for the

IPad pro in that we could see one as soon as quarter four of 2020 so you get your new iPad pro at large a new one with probably a massive display improvement iPad pro XDR or whatever they decide to call it that one probably wouldn't come out and tell october/november so we're still talking about a decent amount of time but I can understand frustration given we're used to iPad refreshes being at the very shortest one-year upgrades with iPad pros it's usually more like 18 months but everyone loves to bring up that one time Apple decided to switch the iPad 3

Out with a lightning port and that was only six months after if the iPad generation 3 came out ton of people are nervous that something like that is going to happen again an apples just gonna drop a new update and now your iPad you bought like nine months ago is now dated so I get it you don't want that to happen but that's kind of the extreme situation because we are getting some analysts saying that a mini LED iPad pro is not coming this year they're gonna save that for later but we are still getting another iPad pro in quarter four of this year it's

Just probably not going to be very major the biggest updates these leakers and analysts are suggesting is it's gonna be a 5g capable woohoo oh my god I can't wait and it's gonna have an updated CPU so like an a 14x chip basically taking the first 5 nanometer iPhone chip we're getting in September and upscaling it to even more powerful but the question remains are either of those features really worth it to you guys like we all know the state of 5g right now okay and it's barely there and it's barely a noticeable difference and bringing it to a tablet app maybe it's more useful

Because you can do more Pro work stuff whether it be maybe the uploading videos off the iPad with 5g maybe it's a bit more useful but again the coverage is just barely there and maybe it's just people wanting to future-proof stuff but when it comes to the a 14x chip which I'm sure if may or may not come out someday but the CPUs Apple will be capable of making in a few months could they really be that much drastically better than the a12 z chip they're making right now maybe it is maybe it's miles ahead but is anyone gonna be complaining about the CPU performance of

Their a 12 z chip in the upcoming weeks I honestly don't think so I can't really think of some specific use case everyone's like man if only the iPad had a faster CPU then I could do this but who knows maybe Apple has some stuff planned at Worldwide Developers Conference for some type of pro apps coming to the iPad whether it's final cut or logic or Xcode and they want to get more high intensity programs on the iPad maybe the a 14x chip would help with that I don't know but in my opinion if it's not really going to be an update to face ID which is a big request I've

Had for the iPad pro and we're not getting that with this refresh and it's probably not going to happen with the next refresh either but the fact that Apple's designing these keyboard cases right like they want to advertise how cool it is that you can use a keyboard and a trackpad with your eye had there even put in the Apple logo sideways like the correct way on the back so it kind of looks more like a MacBook if you're gonna design this thing to be in landscape so often then just put face ID on the long side so that we don't cover it up on accident

All the time it keeps happening anyway that's probably not happening it's probably gonna have the same cameras same lidar sensor which I'm excited to test out but honestly if there's a new iPad pro coming out this year but the only additions are faster CPU in 5g I would say buying a new iPad pro right now isn't the worst idea because those changes are quite small and if you don't have a 20-18 iPad pro then I think the 20/20 iPad pro can make a lot of sense you're just kind of future proofing yourself with these new iPads which have Wi-Fi 6 which is nice the ultra wideband

Chip which should help with locating air tags in the future and I've also read that the new iPad pros have six gigs of RAM so Ram an iOS doesn't always mean a lot but there's still a few upgrades in their internal yes but that probably give you a little bit more future proofing for software updates then the 2018 iPad pros do but here's the honest truth maybe they're working on some mini LED 5g you know all these rumours combined into one iPad and that could come out this year who knows but if you're really just excited to use an iPad pro more like a laptop with a

Keyboard and trackpad you want to have the two USB seaports and everything Apple still sells certified refurbished 2018 iPad pros and certified refurbished from Apple is almost new like they replace a ton of the components it won't look used it won't look all scuffed up it'll feel new it just won't be as cool-looking packaging but you can get a twelve point nine inch iPad pro from 2018 from Apple for only $700 now for certified refurbished so to me that's a pretty decent deal if you buy you know the keyboard case that comes with it that's $1,050 yeah but you're getting a

Really solid two-in-one that cursor support whatever apples cooking up with iPad OS 14 you'll have a hundred twenty Hertz okay you don't get a dual camera you don't get lidar but honestly how many of you use augmented reality apps all the time probably not that often and the a 12x chip is still plenty fast sure you might not get software updates for an additional six years maybe you'll just get it for four or five because it's an older iPad but still I think that thing is more than future-proof it's incredible hardware I'm still using mine and once I

Test out the new iPad pro next week I will decide whether or not I want to keep it or sell my 12 point 9 inch iPad pro but honestly the features between just the iPads and we ignore the magic keyboard accessory pretty minor I think it's safe to say it's not that huge if you're coming from a 20-18 iPad pro again if you don't have a 20-18 iPad pro yeah it's a great investment you're getting double the storage you're getting more and better connectivity options than you can with the 2018 iPad pro but the 11 inch version is going for 550 okay so please consider that an

Option moving forward anyway there's gonna be a ton of iPad pros this year my one hope is that at some point Apple can work on bringing a lot of these great iPad pro features to the rest of the iPad lineup whether it's us PC or face ID or thinner bezels or just anything bring that to these dated iPads it's very confusing for people so let me know what you guys think by hitting me up over on Twitter joining my discord we can chat more about there this is your Apple shape here and my lifestyle apparently is considered self quarantine interesting I'll see you in the next one

you
