Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge In 2021! (Still Worth It?) (Review)

by birtanpublished on February 26, 2021

Welcome back everyone time to talk about another device that i'm pretty sure everyone loves to death which is the samsung galaxy s7 edge now when this phone first came out about five years ago almost in 2016 it definitely wasn't an insane phone i would say because the galaxy s7 also came out we also had the s6 edge the year before and i think that was probably you know a bigger difference not necessarily in the best way but the s7 edge i think was a much needed phone for the most part because it really did differentiate the bottom

Phone to the top phone with a much better specifications any bigger display and just a better phone overall which is really cool now if you want to pick up the s7 edge i probably wouldn't recommend it but i will leave a couple other recommendations probably like a galaxy s10 and a galaxy s20 and maybe even s10e those phones are pretty cheap well they're like a couple hundred dollars still but they're fairly cheap so i'll link those down in the

Description below you can get them from there and help support the channel at the same time now looking on the front of the galaxy s7 edge we have that 5.5 inch super amoled display and it's a 1440p panel and what i can tell you is that for sure this panel i think is one of its biggest assets for sure when it comes down to this day and age it's not like a really really bad pin like when you think of a 2016 phone i think like the iphone 7s and the 7 pluses and

Maybe like some oneplus phones this device from that time and era samsung knocked it out of the park with this display and still when i turn it on still when i mess with it it still you know wows me for sure now it's definitely not the best panel anymore but it's still a really really good panel and it's definitely a humongous asset now you do have quite a bit of bezel around it you know in terms of the front and the top or the top and the bottom but the sides

Because it's an edge there's really no side bezel which is nice so it does make it look a little bit better overall you have that home button on the front with the capacitive keys next to it and the fingerprint sensor in the you know home button now on the bottom you have the micro usb port as well as a headphone jack which is cool you have ip certification on this phone as well which is really random but i love it and you have a micro sd card slot on this phone as well now in this day and age in 2016

Samsung was still you know just throwing whatever they had into a phone into this device besides a removable back it really had a ton of capability for sure at the end of the day now on the back of the s7 edge you have that glass back which is beautiful i still think it looks really really good i don't really have any complaints about it you know i feel like you know the frosted glass backs nowadays are much better but this phone does support wireless charging and you know different things

Like that so for sure when it comes down to that aspect this phone has completely held up in the way it feels in the hand because it doesn't feel like a cheap phone it didn't feel like a cheap phone when it first came out and it still feels like a very very premium phone for sure so in terms of the overall outside it gets a thumbs up for me on my books now in terms of the camera setup it does have a single camera setup on the back it's a 12 megapixel wide angle lens

And i think for the most part this camera sensor isn't bad you know i think even though it's almost 25 years old it's not a bad camera sensor at all is it perfect absolutely not but when you consider the age and the price tag of this phone you do have to give it some benefit of the doubt and what i will tell you though is that 4k 30 on a phone like this with the amount of features that this camera has is a really strong thing for sure and it only helps in its favor there's no 4k 60 which does kind of suck but i will

Tell you there's a lot of apps in the app store nowadays that you can go ahead and you know increase the quality of videos and photos and all that crazy stuff so i will tell you it's nice to have 4k at 60 it's nice to have all these other things but i still think 4k at 30 for the year that this phone was released and everything i think is totally okay if this phone came on in 2019 that's a little bit different but because it came out in 2016

It's a little bit understandable now on the front you have a single five megapixel sensor and this is definitely not my favorite thing about this device i think you know it's okay but i don't know even for that time period i think they could have done a little bit better you know i just never have found you know samsung's front cameras being all that great so that's another big thing i feel like the back camera is pretty good but the front camera is not that great

In my opinion so in terms of the camera setup that pretty much covers it up now in terms of the software experience this is a pretty easy one i just talked about the galaxy s7 the other day it's pretty much the same thing you this phone actually started off with android 6.0 which is okay but it only got up to android 8.0 which is kind of a problem in my opinion this thing did not get one ui which that in and of itself is a pretty big issue but it stopped that touchwiz or samsung experience either or it doesn't really

Matter it's it's just a skinned version of android by a lot i don't really like that you know i wish they did increase it or you know make it just one more version of android it could easily handle it but it is what it is there's nothing we can really do about it so in terms of the overall software experience that pretty much covers it up now performance wise this phone did come out with a qualcomm snapdragon 820 chipset a quad-core cpu an adreno 530 gpu

And four gigabytes of ram on every single model that this phone had now what i will tell you though is that this phone once the apps are loaded for the most part it's actually a pretty good performing phone when the apps are loaded but i will tell you the animations are slow when you click the home button it isn't the fastest experience you know game unloading speeds and everything it's a very slow experience when it comes down to it but as i said before once the games once the apps once the whatever you're using

On this device is loaded you're pretty much in a good spot i actually think it's a decent performing phone in that sense but like i said before it's the getting the apps onto the display in the first part that it's kind of you know a slow process android oreo you know wasn't the best version of android it was actually pretty decent in my opinion from what i experienced with it but you know compared to android 11 it doesn't have as many features it's not as you know better looking as

One ui and this thing even only why it's not that good looking but it's definitely not you know it's it's outdated for sure and i feel like the software hinders it more than it helps it with the pixel side of things you know with the google pixel even the one that came out of 2016 the pixel one that phone for the most part the software enhances the experience and makes it a much faster device because it's so stuck with this one there's just so many moving parts in the background that really bogs this phone

Down so in my opinion the things you're going to run into the most problems with them on this device is ram management and animations but once the apps are loaded once what's ever loaded you're pretty much going to have a pretty okay experience it's not going to be the fastest thing in the world but it's definitely going to be okay for the most part so in terms of the performance standpoint that's kind of how i would cover it up again i don't think anybody's planning

On using this phone anymore but if you are that's kind of how i would kind of say that you're the problem space you're going to run into so in terms of performance that pretty much covers it up now ending it off with the battery life this device had a 3 600 million bar battery inside of it now it did have wireless charging which is really cool but other than that you're pretty much i mean the battery's degraded quite a bit but 3 600 million bars is actually still pretty good for the most part it's not

Like the best battery we've seen ever but for 2016 that was actually a pretty fair sized battery and considering the s6 edge to this device was a huge increase in million powers i think that's a pretty fair thing you know that they did and even though this battery for me personally has degraded quite a bit and you know the software hasn't really helped it in terms of the overall you know battery life experience either i will still tell you i think the battery life is okay definitely not amazing

Definitely not bad for a 2016 phone i think it's held up pretty fairly throughout the you know years it's been out so in terms of everything and to kind of sum up the whole entire video is the samsung galaxy s7 edge still worth it in 2021 well what i'll tell you is this i think for the most part there are still a lot of pros for a device like this you know you have a beautiful display on the front it's a very very good looking display i don't really have any problems with the display itself

Maybe you know no 120hz no fingerprint sensor in the display but this is the 2016 phone so it's totally understandable and i don't have any problems when it comes down to that you still have a headphone jack in this phone which is really cool you have a micro sd card slot as well which is really really awesome on a device like this you have a pretty good back camera on this thing you know the photos and videos that you'll take on it will pretty much get the job done for the

Most part and you have a lot of features built into the phone for the better for worse and there's a lot of features built into the camera as well the battery life is also pretty decent you know it's a decent size you have wireless charging you have ib certification and those things right there are still pretty current and it helps the durability and the longevity of the phone but as i said before this phone is definitely not perfect and there are a

Couple of issues that would really hinder a lot of people recommending this phone including me i feel like one of the biggest problems of this phone is the software you know it just isn't getting any more software updates it's getting like security updates where it was for a while but it's not getting any more updates you know you're already kind of outdated and that is kind of a problem you know with the next versions of android and the next versions of software that are

Coming out for all these other devices you're going to be outdated you're not going to be getting any more of those features just like how the galaxy s8 is also not getting any more of those features it's kind of a sad thing i wish that wasn't the case but there's really nothing we can really do about it we're just going to have to live with it so that's that in order of itself is like the biggest problem i have with the galaxy s7 edge if this phone was still getting softer

Updates that would be a little bit of a different story i think it'd be probably still kind of worth it to be honest but because it isn't that's like the one of the biggest problems right there also some other things you know like the front camera definitely isn't the best front camera i've ever seen even from 2017 or 2016 for that matter the iphone 7 and 7 plus have better front-facing cameras than this thing and in this day and age as i've stated before even me personally i use the front camera way more than i use in the back

Camera i'm taking selfies all the time whatever the case is i like having a better front-facing camera and i don't like having one that's choppy and doesn't hand it just isn't that good so that's a pretty big problem in it of itself and also the used prices of these things aren't necessarily extremely extremely cheap like i think the google pixel the first one is an insanely good value just because of the software updates and the custom rom capability and all that the s7 edge doesn't have any of that capability so

That's kind of how it's summed up but obviously like i said before phones like the galaxy s20 the s10 the s10e even a phone like a galaxy s9 or the google pixel 2 are great competitors to this phone as well and they are much better than this phone so i'll leave a couple of those linked down below as well like i said before you can get them from there and help support the channel at the same time but that's really pretty much it if you guys have any other questions or anything like that let me know in the comment section below
