Pixel 5 Camera Comparison vs. iPhone 11 vs. Samsung S20 FE!

by birtanpublished on October 30, 2020

What's going on guys my name is wade with tech daily and in this video we're going to be doing a camera comparison test between the new google pixel 5 the samsung galaxy s20 fe and the iphone 11. now i wanted to do this test with these phones for a couple of reasons first off these devices are all similarly priced 6.99 for the pixel 5 and the s20 fe and 6.99 for the iphone 11 when it launched last year though it just got bumped down in price with the iphone 12 announcement

Last week i of course want to see how this new pixel 5 stacks up since it is now google's flagship device and it's no secret that the camera capabilities in particular sort of define this phone but i also wanted to use this as a sort of benchmark for the upcoming iphone 12 as well because as you'll see here shortly i think in comparison the iphone 11 sort of shows its age now it seems to have fallen a bit behind the times

And capabilities and with the results so perhaps in just a few short days the things that we see with the new iphone 12 against these two new phones will be pretty different than what we're experiencing now with this iphone 11. i don't want to spend too much time talking about the specs and all that jazz at this point i feel like you guys know what we're working with and of course megapixels and things aren't everything but the fe does have a third lens the telephoto

Lens while the other two phones don't have that so just keep that in mind and when we jump into the picture and video samples here i'll go a little more in depth with the important capability differences which you will see so let's just go ahead and get right into it here i'll offer up some of my own thoughts but of course feel free to let me know what you think in the comments down below now i think right away with just normal regular old pictures

You can definitely spot some consistent characteristics and tendencies based on the phones for example it's no secret that samsung tends to boost the saturation which i think is pretty apparent the fe tends to look more colorful and maybe more pleasing in a lot of shots it certainly offers vibrant looking pictures but it may not be as accurate and it's certainly not always the true representation of the scene the iphone i think seems to fall

Somewhere in the middle obviously it still looks more vibrant than the pixel in most instances but a little less overdone compared to the s20fe and with the pixel the thing about most of its shots is that yeah it may not be the most pleasing or most eye-catching you might even say that they're a little dull but it offers in my opinion the most accurate representation of the scene is that sometimes the right move sure

For example the sky in las vegas here has pretty much never looked as blue as the s20 fe often shows it it looks exactly like it's shown on the pixel a bit muted with a hint of white or gray not that bold bright vibrant blue but on the other hand when you're taking pictures of colorful subjects like flowers or a garden i feel like you maybe you want the picture to pop more so for these shots here the iphone or the fe might do a better job showing off the subject

I do think something like this is really a matter of personal preference more than anything else but i will say that for me there are some scenes and subjects that i would rather take with something like the fe where it'll end up looking better than real life and other times with something like the pixel i don't want it overdone i just want it accurate all three phones this year have an ultra wide lens which i actually find myself using quite a bit and with this i think this is where the iphone 11

First starts to fall short to me the ultra wide shots on the iphone tend to get a little dark you lose some detail and it's not always as capable in less than ideal conditions which i'll explain in a second interestingly enough these phones all seem to have slightly different fields of view too the pixel 5 has about 107 degree range while the s20 fe is a bit wider at 123 degrees so more often than not the pixel 5 maybe

Doesn't capture as much but there are certain instances i think where the s20 fe with its super wide angle ends up distorting the scene a bit more so i think you sort of need to decide what's more important in your wide angle shots now let me explain a bit more about the capability differences between these three phones because i think this is actually a big defining factor when the lights go down both the pixel 5 and s20 fe can take night mode pictures with all of their lenses and in every mode so

Night mode with the wide angle for example even night mode with the selfie cameras too the iphone 11 can only utilize its night mode with the main lens on the rear so what ends up happening here more often than not is you have a ton of instances where the pixel 5 and the s20 fe can produce great results with a combination of features night mode plus wide angle night mode plus a two zoom night mode plus a selfie while the iphone 11 suddenly feels

Super limited and i think the results speak for themselves now do keep in mind that the upcoming iphone 12 which launches in just a few days fixes this issue that new phone can utilize night mode with everything but this iphone 11 is very obviously limited if we're just talking night mode versus night mode on all three phones and not utilizing any different lens the iphone 11 i think still produces amazing night shots i do think the pixel 5 is probably more

Consistent still with its night sight and i think the s20 fe is the most inconsistent sometimes it's good sometimes it misses the mark but to be totally honest i think i'd just rather have all the extra capabilities from the other phones more than anything else one area i think the pixel 5 showed some improvement this year was in its video capabilities i almost always prefer the iphone to shoot video i think that's no secret no matter the conditions but the pixel does look really good this time around

Too all three phones are super smooth and steady at 4k 30fps but i do think that when we jump to the wide angle for example for whatever reason the pixel 5 loses some of that edge wide angle video probably wouldn't be my choice to film with the pixel while on the iphone i think it does look really good the s20 fe i feel could still use some improvement in a lot of instances i personally just haven't yet been impressed by samsung's video

Capabilities at this point but they're getting there and it's becoming a little tougher to be too critical with selfies one thing i actually was super surprised by was the amount of detail i saw coming from the iphone i don't know if it's just the lack of any sort of smoothing or enhancing whatsoever but every pore and every wrinkle on my face is visible here wow the pixel seems to go a little smoother and the s20 fe very obviously beautifies me to make me look almost

Porcelain a super smooth look with that being said though with portrait mode i do think the iphone really missed the mark with edge detection around my hair and my shirt compared to the pixel and the s20fe so that's certainly something to consider as well alright so i'm gonna stop talking now for a bit and just let these pictures and video samples scroll by feel free to analyze and critique them on your own let me know what you think in the comments down below and i'll meet back

Up with you guys at the end of this video all right so here are my final thoughts first off the pixel 5 i think has the potential to take some incredible shots the addition of the wide angle is helpful google software does an amazing job too that's no secret but with every other phone gaining a ton of ground i think there's

Some stiff competition now is the iphone 11 competition for the pixel 5 no the limiting modes and features in comparison make the pixel and even the fe more capable technically but with the iphone 12 now on the horizon it'll be interesting to see just how that phone competes with these so there you go hopefully you guys enjoyed this video let me know your thoughts in the comments down below on these pictures and videos

I'd love to hear which phone you think did the best job also be sure to follow tech daily on twitter and subscribe to the tech daily youtube channel if you haven't already and i'll see you guys later
