OnePlus 5T long term review: 5 Months Later

by birtanpublished on August 28, 2020

The oneplus six was just announced a couple days ago and while I'm still testing that flagship I decided to show you how my one plus 5t has held up after five months of use now when I first got this phone the first thing I did was put a case on it don't get me wrong the

Build quality is solid nothing says durable like an all aluminum design but any naked phone with a huge front glass is bound to crack in my hands and even with the case the screen still got a small scratch nothing

Serious I just recommend picking up a screen protector if you're just as clumsy as me and also have a phone with a taller display when holding the 5t I found to be very comfortable thanks to the curved back and great button and

Fingerprint sensor placement all the keys are very tactile the alert slider came in handy and the metal build with that tall six inch display really made this phone feel premium speaking of that's how display this was one plus his

First attempt at going bezel-less and while there's still a bit of bezel they did a great job of pushing the limits the only way they could get a better screen to body ratio is if they slap a notch at the top which is what they did

With the oneplus 6 this new 18 by 9 aspect ratio presents a great gaming and video experience it shows more on the screen with less time spent scrolling and the jelly effect which was a huge problem with the display on the oneplus

5 never showed up on the 5 T so even though it's still a 1080p panel and there are phones with better-looking displays the 1 plus Phi T screen still provides a decent experience now the two things that most people are concerned

About in the long run are battery life and performance starting with the battery it's been consistently good it still gets me through the entire day with moderate to heavy usage I usually have Bluetooth GPS and Wi-Fi enabled

Most of the time with the screen brightness setting your Mac's in return I usually see a screen on time of around 5 hours which is what I experienced when I first got the phone these results are probably thanks to the attend 82 piece

Screen and really lightweight software plus wood – charger never had any anxiety about my phone running I had juice and the phone is still extremely fast absolute quickly the OS is snappy and responsive and I never experienced

Any type of lag on any of the apps I use but I'm not surprised oneplus has always been known for the performance and with the 5 T packing Snapdragon 835 chipset 6 to 8 gigabytes of RAM and dulaine storage based on ufs

2.1 I wasn't expecting a slow device even the unlocking process is blazing fast but the face unlock feature fingerprint sensor detect really well under the right conditions unlocking the phone in under a second I still prefer

Using the fingerprint scanner over face unlock though because it doesn't do that well in poor lighting extreme angles or if you have things on your face at the sunglasses but I'm still glad that one plus include this feature and that you

Can have the fingerprint scanner and the face unlocked enabled at the same time for two options of locking the phone now before I move on to the software I wanted to thank Noor VPN for sponsoring today's video if you want to protect

Your data with military-grade encryption and become anonymous online then try out Nord VPN they have over 4000 fast VPN servers in over 60 countries that you can connect to and when you're connected you can also use their cyber site

Feature to block ads in your browser and protect your device from malicious websites what I really enjoy is that they have special servers I can provide extra security such as double VPN and tidy DOS onion / VPN and more other

Awesome features that you may like is that it will allow you to create up to 6 VPN connections under one account its cross-platform you will have unlimited VPN bandwidth and more click the link in the description or use our coupon code 8

Police to get 77% off their three-year plan moving on to the software oxygen OS has gotten several major updates since the arrival of the 1 + 5 t out of the box that came with Android 7.1.1 and it's been updated to the latest

Stable version which is Android 8.1 Oreo some of my favorite features in oxygen OS include parallel apps to easily clone selected apps such as Facebook or snapchat so you can log into the same social media profile with two different

Accounts expanded screenshot to take a long screenshot of a conversation to screen off gestures the option to change the overall theme from light to dark and some newer changes to the 1 plus launcher such as hidden space which lets

You secretly tuck away some of your applications in the app drawer and a new toolbox card in the Shelf screen for quick actions such as setting up a timer recording audio and more just recently oneplus included an option to replace

The navigation bar with gestures sort of like the iPhone X and I kind of dig it it needs a bit of work though as it takes way too long to access the recent page and that can no longer bring up Google assist them with the home button

But it does feel a bit more convenient than having to press small buttons at the bottom of the screen and it frees a bit more screen real estate you'll either love it or hate it in the end the software feels a bit more

And efficient and minimalistic since it first got released plus a stock like Andrew experience with a few extra features provides that cherry on top now the biggest thing that one place should focus on improving is the secondary rear

Camera the main one works just fine it takes great day time pictures has fast shutter speeds and HDR mode is adequate the second camera on the other hand isn't so great it's meant to be a low light focused shooter but it does a

Really bad job at improving the low-light performance this is because it only activates when you're in the darkest of situations so even when it's reasonably dark out smaller pinpoint lights such as street lamps or car

Headlights will truthy 5-t into thinking that the scene is bright enough for the main camera resulting in some grainy and overly softened photos and even when the secondary camera is used I really don't see a huge difference when compared to

Its main lens this is the only big issue I had with the 5 T's camera in all other situations this phone performs well just don't expect it to wow you like the Google pixel when I use this phone I watched a lot of YouTube videos

Snapchats and TV shows take advantage of the giant u display so I highly dependent on the built-in speaker as well and after using it for so long my final thoughts are that it's alright there's only a single down firing unit

That can be accidentally blocked with your palm but it does get loud luckily you still have the headphone jack so you'll probably use that instead lastly there are some extra features that I enjoyed like bluetooth 5.0 and FC

Gorilla Glass 5 and the wide variety of modifications this phone supports at this routing or ROM support but there were also some missing features that I wish it had such as water resistance wireless charging and support for Sprint

And Verizon that being said the 1 + 5 t still has a lot going for itself he has a big display great battery life very familiar software and it's packed with a chipset that's still very powerful in 2018 the pros definitely outweigh the

Cons and my overall experience with this phone has been great but there is a big problem oneplus doesn't sell this phone anymore on their website and if you try to get it on amazon or ebay you'll be paying around five hundred thirty

Dollars for the cheapest model which is the same starting price as the one plus six for that reason alone I can't recommend this phone even though I'm not that familiar with the 6 it does look better on paper and has a bit more

Features and improvements the only way I could see someone choosing the 1 + 5 t over the 6 is if they're not a fan of the but even then oneplus allows you to hide it with the software so you still have

The same screen to body ratio in the end the 1 + 5 t was a great phone but it's time to move on anyways that's my long-term review of the 1 + 5 t let me know in the comments what you think about this device make

Sure to drop a like if you enjoyed and I'll catch you guys in the next one peace
