Nightmare Before Christmas Halloween Cake | Cupcake Jemma

by birtanpublished on September 15, 2020

Hello and welcome to another recipe video from here comes in doilies HQ obviously it's Tuesday the Curzon giving you a little extra video this week the close on Thursday I'm going to be doing what you guys have been asking for for ages which is a behind the scenes at the

Shop video so make sure you tune into that I just didn't want you to go without a recipe this week and with it being Halloween I thought I would do a Halloween themed cake this is gonna be a decoration video only using whatever

Cake you like the most and I'm basing my cake on Nightmare Before Christmas because it is gross so I have made a six-inch one and a half height cake so you would just need two times your recipe by one and a half so it's got six

Layers in it I've crumb coated it filled it and it has been chilled in the fridge for about half an hour and it's nice and firm so I'm going to put the decorative layer of buttercream on so I'm actually going to be doing a kind of watercolor

Style I've done this before with my good friend Tom Daley so go and check that video out if you haven't already cuz it was really fun but for now I'm gonna just do a base layer of this lovely light gray color because I want this to

Kind of look like a moody Halloween sky kind of thing hey guys as you can see I haven't completely smoothed it out using my cake scraper just yet because I'm gonna be adding more icing anyway and I have three other

Colors here I've got a kind of darker shade of grey a black and a dark midnight blue just to really get that kind of sky thing happening and I'm gonna start by splurging these colors just all over the place I'm pretty happy

With my Sailaja so now I'm gonna use a big cake scraper just because this is a bit of a tall okay you might have seen me using this one before and I'm going to start by smoothing it one way and then I'm gonna go back the other way to

Stop it from elliptic becoming just like solid lines of color there goes that looks really nice like a proper moody sky and I'm just gonna do a little bit of the same on the top but I'll just use my pallet knife to smooth it out cuz

That's a bit of a beast that smoother so that is the base of my cake ready looking lovely and Halloweeny and now I'm going to do something on the front and round the sides which we're kind of gonna look like the kind of

Halloweeny cityscape that you have in Nightmare Before Christmas so I've actually just found some pictures online that kind of do the thing that I won silhouettes and gravestones and buildings and stuff and I've got my

Gloves on because I'm going to be doing that decoration with sugar paste so I've just got some black sugar paste I actually bought this free black but if you want to you can use just food color paste it with normal white sugar paste

You'll need quite a bit to get at this color so I do recommend buying it pre colored and I'm just going to roll that out to start with just until it's about three or four millimeters thick

So when you're satisfied with the thickness of your sugar paste you can then start cutting out your shapes now as I said if you find it easier to cut out the shapes that you've printed and then draw around them that's absolutely

Up to you I like to just wing it a little bit and actually because it's kind of based on the Nightmare Before Christmas if it's a little bit wonky I think that's okay because all the buildings in that film are all kind of

All over the shop and so I'm using a very sharp scalpel so watch your fingers and I'm just going to cut my building shapes out of my sugar paste so that is my first piece and it's a

Good idea not to try and attempt to do the entire thing in one go because you need to pick it up at some point so it's going really hard to do that so I'm going to do it in chunks and I am going to stick it on with edible glue and my

Buttercream is just probably a little bit dry too to stick it on naturally or bitch it's okay but you could use a little bit more buttercream if you don't have edible glue and just don't use too much and once you have a nice thin layer

Of edible glue on there you can then turn it over and just stick it into position gently onto the side of your cake so then just keep going making new

Little buildings and gravestones and things and sticking them onto your cakes you put all the way around

so that is the entire outside covered in this weird creepy silhouette and just to give it a little bit more excitement and depth I'm going to be using a bit of edible

Paint in yellow just to kind of paint some windows on and make it seem even more spooky and more alive and I think I've got enough windows on there now it's looking really cool but I'm just gonna finish it off by making a chopper

And I've already made the base of my chopper and it's this big giant yellow disc and all this is it's yellow sugar paste mixed with a bit of gum tragacanth and that will make it drive really hard and I made it yesterday so it's had lots

Of time to harden and I've rolled it out about a half a centimeter thick to give me enough room to put these skewers in and what that's going to do is secure it nice and firmly in the Cape when I put it in but to start with I am going to

Paint my picture of Jack and Sally on spiral Hill it goes oh and I think I'm done now obviously I would ideally wait for that to dry but I want to crack on with s so I'm going to

Put it into my cake and the top of a secret topper so with your cake just choose whichever side is your favorite to be the front obviously any kind of mistakes or dents or anything like that make that the back obviously I think

This is the front so I'm going to slowly and carefully pop this right into the middle of the cake I think it looks great don't you I hope that you do and that you'll want to

Recreate this for Halloween so please do and please take a picture of it so I really want to see how you get on with all these techniques obviously you can use these techniques for lots of other things that aren't

Even related to Halloween so do that as well and when you do take a picture put it on your Instagram feed use hashtag cupcake Gemma and that way I will see it also I love Halloween as you know and I hope you love it too

I'm gonna get dressed up and if you get dressed up too I want you to take a picture put it on Instagram and use the hashtag cupcake Jenner Halloween because I really want to see your outfits so I will be back next week with another

Recipe see you then have a great Halloween oh don't really know how else to say apart for him like by Nicky's waving at me in the background by Nicky bye guys bye wonderful cake
