NEW FITBIT VERSA 3 (Nearly Identical to The Sense, But $100 less??)

by birtanpublished on October 4, 2020

What you're looking at right here is the brand new fitbit versa 3 which is the smartwatch you'd be buying if you wanted the latest fitbit but you wanted to save 100 on something that is basically the same as their flagship fitbit sense so in this video i'm going to talk about the design of this watch what it's capable of the health features and what actually makes it different from the fitbit sense to help you decide whether or not you want to buy this one instead of the fitbit sense and save an extra 100 now starting off with a physical tour of

This watch on the front you can see we have the large i guess it's a scorcle is what people are calling it's like a squarish kind of design but very rounded corners and it has a 1.6 inch amoled screen very bright very vibrant honestly just a really nice touch screen display here and it's water resistant up to 50 meters so swimming showering washing your hands whatever you have no problems with this watch it also has a metal bezel all the way around there which

Is not necessarily for ecg on this one because this watch does not have an ecg but i do think it looks pretty nice to have that all the way around and there are a couple different colors i'll show them on the screen right now you can really easily interchange the watch bands on here but you know you can choose from a couple different colors of the actual watch body itself now the strap that it comes with is a nice soft silicone band and it kind of has i think they call it an infinity loop so it kind of has a

Really interesting way of putting it on it's not the easiest to put on right away but once you get it it's definitely very secure also looking on the right and left side of this watch you'll see that there is no physical button exactly like we see on the fitbit charge 4 and on the fitbit sense instead you're just going to squeeze it and that acts as your home button or your back button and while it is nice to have this it makes it a little bit more robust a little bit more waterproof what i found is it's not always the most

Reliable sometimes it doesn't always respond when you're squeezing it and so you really have to get used to exactly how to squeeze it on the right side we have a microphone and a speaker which you'll be using for your voice assistant which on here is alexa which is weird because google is kind of purchasing fitbit i don't know why it's not google assistant but regardless it's alexa you can also use this for phone calls but that feature is not out yet so eventually that should be rolling out

As soon as fitbit has it ready and that's a really nice feature to have on a smartwatch now looking at the back of this we again have a huge array of different sensors for health tracking i'll get into what it's able to do and that's kind of the big difference between this and the fitbit sense like i said i'll show you that later on in the video now in a minute i'm going to get into some accuracy tracking of the heart rate sensor and the gps and the sleep tracking but first i want to talk about what

Health features this watch actually has because like i said this is a big difference between the versa 3 which is 230 dollars and the fitbit sense which is 330 now starting off they both have the same pure pulse 2.0 heart rate sensor which is the newest fitbit heart rate sensor they claim it's going to be really good if you saw my previous review i well i'm going to show you that in a second with the accuracy testing they also both have a skin temperature sensor they both have spo2 sensors

Although what's interesting about that is you cannot actually see the spo2 data unless you have fitbit premium which is the premium version of their app again i'll talk about that later on in the video this has an altimeter this has gps for accuracy tracking you could do period tracking on there as a pedometer and like i said you have the heart rate tracking as well so lots of different options for tracking your health but let's get into some testing now to see just how accurate it actually is all right so looking at the heart rate

Accuracy we have the orangish line right here is the versa 3 and then the blue line is a polar heart rate strap so we know that is accurate and you can see right here as is really typical for a lot of risk-based optical heart rate sensors it started off very low so that's pretty common for watches and then around minute four or five over here it started to become much more accurate and then it remained accurate until the end of the run when i picked up my pace and you can see we have a meaningful

Difference here as well as here that's about eight beats difference right there so it definitely was a meaningful difference there but for the most part i mean it wasn't necessarily really inaccurate it's going to be sufficient for your average runner somebody just going for casual runs just to stay healthy it's going to do a decent job of detecting how hard you worked but if you're really trying to keep close tabs on your heart rate and you're really trying to get extreme data from that obviously a heart rate

Strap is going to be more accurate and the good news is fitbit is generally known to release updates over time so i believe it should be getting more accurate as we progress i'm excited to see how that looks but for now uh the accuracy was not especially impressive with the heart rate but the good thing is if we go over to the gps we can see again the yellowish orange line is the versa 3. you can pretty much just ignore the blue line that's just based on my phone gps obviously very bad and as we zoom in you can see it did an

Excellent job following the trail and keep in mind that the dotted line the trail is not perfectly straight but you know it is for the most part straight with the dotted line so you can see a little bit of wandering here and there but overall the gps accuracy was very impressive and i was very happy to see that uh it's definitely a great quality of this watch so taking a quick look at the watch interface we can swipe down from the top and we'll see our notifications and we can go over from the left and see some quick

Settings to change your brightness to change the always on display and stuff like that if we swipe over the other way we see all of our different apps we have and there are a lot that come pre-loaded on this device but you can find a lot more in the fitbit app as well and then from the watch face right here you can actually swipe up from the bottom and this shows you about your day so you can see uh just like how many steps you took how many minutes you walked stuff like that how much water you drank if

You if you logged that obviously you're not going to track that and basic stuff like that now if we squeeze the side it brings us back to home it's also our back button if we double squeeze it if we double squeeze it it gives us our quick menu that we chose right here so you get four different options for some quick access things so i have like music fitbit pay alexa stuff like that and then if we press and hold the button it'll open up whatever we chose i chose

To open up alexa and that's essentially the entire interface it's very simple very easy to use and it really kind of just makes sense so clearly there are quite a few health tracking features on the fitbit versa 3 here but there are a few that are missing that we saw on the fitbit sense so some of them include the ecg you don't have an ecg on here you don't have the eda scan which is kind of like how your body reacts to stress you also don't have the stress score so

It's not going to be monitoring your stress and you won't have the high and low heart rate alerts so if your heart rate suddenly spikes up or drops you're not going to be alerted on this device so the good thing is anybody who is reasonably confident that they don't have any health complications and their primary goal of a smart watch is to track their fitness with gps and heart rate and maybe track their sleep and stuff like that the fitbit versus 3 is really going to be the same as the fitbit sense

Now if you are actually worried a little bit more about your heart health when you're not working out when you're just looking for like the eda scan from your stress or you're looking for an ecg then you would definitely be interested in getting the fitbit sense but i would say most people would probably be just as happy or you know really happier because you have an extra hundred dollars if you're buying the fitbit versa three now talking about

Some of the smartwatch features this has it comes with six months of fitbit premium which is actually pretty nice because fitbit premium i believe is about ten dollars per month so that's giving you a pretty good head start on that and then you can decide afterwards if you want to continue that or not on top of that you're also getting a lot of mainstream apps on here you so you get deezer you get pandora those both you can play offline spotify you can get it on here but it only acts as a remote unfortunately you

Cannot have any offline spotify downloaded on this watch you also get really cool things like weather fitbit pay so you can go and pay for things with nfc on this watch probably my favorite feature on this watch strangely enough is actually the smart wake where it essentially follows your sleep throughout the night as it's already doing and you set your alarm in the morning and it'll wake you up within a half hour prior to your alarm based on when your body is naturally best woken up so you're not going to be

Groggy you're not going to be all tired in the morning instead you'll feel a lot more refreshed because you woke up at the right part of your sleep cycle it's supposed to be a little bit more natural and i definitely like that feature now you have some other things on here like i said you have alexa so you have your voice assistant you can also have phone calls that that feature is actually not out yet but regardless there are quite a few smartwatch features on this device

All right so getting into the pros and cons of the fitbit versa 3 starting with the pros the first one i think is going to be the price now the price of this is a little bit higher than last year's fitbit versa 2 but i think they added a lot of really nice features and i really like the design of this so you have some great things you have gps on here you've got speaker microphone just tons of smartwatch features at a very competitive price

That is cheaper than like the apple watch se cheaper than the apple watch six cheaper than the galaxy watch three like there's a lot of its competition that yeah they have rotating bezels and rotating crowns but for the most part this is doing a lot of the same stuff and in fact it even does some more things the second big pro that i i really like the app for this so they really do a good job of gamifying your workouts and your exercise and encouraging you to stay active which i think is one of the

Main reasons people are buying smart watches in the first place is to help them lose weight and kind of incentivize them to work out more now kind of on that same subject there is a con that two things first of all you will have to pay for fitbit premium to get all of your analytics and so by that i mean they have some custom workout plans and some more deep insights into like your sleep and your spo2 and stuff like that

And the second drawback is while fitbit does make things pretty digestible every now and then it gives you information that you just don't know what to do with like it tells you like your skin temperature when you're sleeping and i don't know what does that mean how do i change that why is that is that a good thing or a bad thing if it's higher or lower they don't tell you a lot of stuff like that and it kind of leaves you to do your own research so guys overall though i'm very impressed with this watch i think if you are between

The fitbit sense and the fitbit versa 3 it really comes down to if you're worried about your health when you are not working out if you're if you really want the ecg and the eda scan and the stress tracking then maybe the fitbit sense but at that point it really wouldn't even be a question between the two of them because you already know you really want the ecg but for almost anybody else out there you're really getting the same smartwatch here the same design the same

Waterproofing the same interface the same six day battery life it's going to be pretty much the same as the fitbit sense but just a hundred dollars cheaper so i definitely recommend this watch like i said much more competitive and i really think that for most people the fitbit versa 3 is going to be the fitbit to buy so comment down below let me know what you think of this watch if you'll be buying it or not and you know what features you like or don't like about it if you enjoyed this video please consider liking and

Subscribing i will be comparing this to many other smart watches in the future so definitely subscribe to see those videos thanks for watching guys i'll see you next time
