Motorola One Hyper: A $400 pixel-binning beast?

by birtanpublished on October 5, 2020

Okay so I'm out here right now in Maui in Hawaii awesome place of course Qualcomm brought us out here many thanks to them for bringing us out here for all of their tech summit announcement so here at the tech summit on the first day I'm recording this at the end of the first day there's a lot of news that has already come out of here some big mobile news with the snapdragon 865 being announced and also a cheaper but still 5g capable and gaming capable 765 and 765 g another development that occurred during the show is that mobile partners have been showing up and they have been giving some of their own announcements

Motorola was one of those people and they got up there talked about 5g in their new devices especially in the more affordable devices that's cool they showed off the razor a little bit more that's cool and then at some point near the end of it all steve aoki came out to talk about 5g during live concerts okay that's cool but then i also had a meeting with motorola after the keynote was completed for the first day and this i did not expect so let's talk about this new device that actually is out right now in the u.s. at motorola calm at the time

You're viewing this video it's josh of reguar what's going on everybody and let's take a look at the moto 1 hyper all right so the motorola 1 hyper hyper is quite the term but this is a phone that comes in at 399 dollars and that price might already make you think about where some of the corners were cut but when you start to look at the spec sheet it's actually kind of impressive what this phone is achieving speaking of spec sheets ok so i'll get the main spec out of the way that you're probably expecting the snapdragon 675 is what you're using here and it also has 4

Gigabytes of RAM now performance on this phone shouldn't be all that bad you are running Android 10 on here and it looks to be a pretty stock version of Android with a few key moto additions built in that of course will include things like gestures and what you'll notice as I do the twist gesture is that a little pop up camera came up that is one of the main stories about this phone is the fact that there is a 32 megapixel pop-up camera that supports the main sensor which is a 64 megapixel camera along with an 8 megapixel ultra wide now pop up camera

Just makes sure that the display has no cuts whatsoever no holes no notches whatsoever it is at 19 by 9 aspect ratio Full HD Plus resolutions it is 2340 by 1080 in particular and the screen is 6.5 inches and it is an IPS display this is of course contrary to a couple of other Motorola one devices that actually had punch holes in the corner of their displays running down the spec sheet you also get 128 gigabytes of on-board storage which is also expandable and that's a feature that you don't necessarily get on even flagship sometimes these days alongside

All of that you also get a headphone jack the phone does come with a fingerprint reader but Moto added something a little bit small to make it even more useful there's a little ring light around the fingerprint sensor itself that pulsates under certain notifications and when you're charging the phone it wasn't really something that I could show in super sunny Maui but I really enjoy that this little bit of flair is literally on the phone and this entire body which actually has a pretty nice looking design especially with that pseudo racing stripe going

Down the side there but most thing denotes where the camera module is but one thing I was really jazzed about when it comes to this phone and perhaps this is where the word hyper is really coming from is the fact that you have 45 watt capable charging now in the US especially the box is going to come with an 18 watt charger but it is compatible with PD standard 45 watt charging which means that the laptop charger that I'm using right now for my MSI prestige 15 will actually help charge this phone really fast and not only that the phone actually has a four thousand milliamp

Hour battery so it's not really that much of a slouch in the power department okay but you do probably want to hear more about the cameras and there are a couple of exciting things about this the camera application will have a couple of things like night vision which is motos version of a night mode but that night vision is now available on the front facing camera as well now again that is a front-facing camera with 32 megapixels to support the 64 megapixel main camera both of these cameras the front and the main sensor are going to be pixel binning so if you do the math you have a

Quad pixel set up so you have pixel binning that's four pixels so if you have 64 you have a 16 megapixel final result in the auto mode on the main camera and an 8 megapixel final results on the front camera so the phone should be able to provide some good stills photography and selfie experiences I'm not too sure about video as I didn't have a whole lot of time to actually dive through all of those settings but no matter how you slice that the Motorola 1 hyper provides a few very key feature that most people might be looking for

But they're not willing to pay over $1,000 for certain flagship devices and to their point Motorola one hyper also comes with a few things that even flagship phones aren't able to provide any more like a headphone jack or super super fast charging or even just a high-resolution front-facing pop-up camera in any case the phone is available now at Motorola dot-com for 399 dollars that's not a bad price for a phone with these level of cameras I obviously can't really show you or give you any opinions on the picture quality but hopefully I'll be getting a review

Unit at some point to at the very least test out the cameras and see if a phone that is as affordable as this can provide some pretty high-end stills in any case I'm still here for the Qualcomm tech summit we still have a couple of days left there's probably going to be even more news coming out from this show here in the beautiful island of Maui so stay tuned to my channel for that and even more drop some likes on this video and then get into the comment sections down below let me know if you have a Motorola one device any one of them there were quite a few of them that

Actually came out in 2019 this is just the latest one and they're making sure that it hits the 2019 marked by being available now subscribe to my channel if you haven't already go ahead and hit that Bell over on the side to keep up with everything that I'm doing not only here in Maui but beyond I mean CES is just around the corner and there's even a lot going on before then so stay tuned to my channel for all of that stuff and as I go make another cup of tea to make sure that I have voice for tomorrow I'll just go ahead and remind you to enjoy your tea everybody
