Moto G7 and Moto G7 Power Review

by birtanpublished on March 25, 2021

This was Lisa from mobile tech review and I'm rocking to droids get it so this is the Moto G 7 and the Moto G 7 power the power has the immense battery but surprisingly a lower price tag whether you're looking at the regular g7 which is $2.99 or the g7 power at 2:49 you're getting a lot of foam from the price I'm so happy moto is still making the G Series fellas because not everybody wants to spend $750 or $1,000 or can spend that much money there's also we don't have it but there's a g7 play which is the most basic model that one has less RAM and it has a smaller screen size but otherwise it's pretty

Similar to these two we're gonna looking at them so moto has been doing the tiered thing for a while whether it's the G Series or their higher-end Z series but this is the first time where it's not certainly good better and best in the lineup and their elements of the g7 and the g7 power that you're gonna want and it would be neat if they could be all in one phone wouldn't it with the regular g7 that's the more expensive one surprisingly it's 299 which is pretty cheap by today's Android phone standards and you get a pretty pleasing display it's a widescreen 1080p display it's

Pretty high resolution though comparable to phones that are selling for up to five or six hundred dollars honestly it's LTPS which is an IPS like technology you're not gonna get oullette for this amount of money it's got two cameras on the rear and one of them is for depth sensing so you can get the bokeh thing going on you know with your portrait effects using the two lenses to help you with that instead of just doing it via surf software and interpolation they both have the same snapdragon 632 cpu that's an upper mid-range cpu and it's pretty competent the audrina 506

Graphics that come with that and that's a little bit more older technology so for gaming if you're gonna play like the most demanding games like punky mobile or something like that it hurts you're gonna have to play on low settings but for a lot of other games it's absolutely fine and for everyday use just perfect the g7 has four gigs of RAM but g7 Power has three gigs of ram the g7 has 64 gigs of internal storage but the g7 power has 32 gigs why did they do this I suppose to give you a humongous battery and keep the price down and maybe the power drain as well they both have 4G LTE they're

Compact and they're compatible with most carriers around the world and they support both GSM and CDMA so for those of you in the United States you know that means Sprint and Verizon not just AT&T t-mobile and all the other carriers also support Google Phi microSD card slot is for expansion nano SIM card slot for your welcome your SIM card slot both of them have 12 megapixel rear cameras and they can shoot 4k video at 30 frames per second the aperture is slightly different though a little bit faster on the g7 versus the g7 power both of them have a megapixel front camera and it's

Decent enough it's fine for your video chats and all that sort of thing in your selfie glory no fancy effects going on no multiple cameras obviously in this price range typical of phones that are $500 or less there's no NFC and there's no wireless charging however you do get the turbo charger fast 15 watt charger with both of these phones so it will top-up quickly and in the case of the g7 power that has a five thousand milliamp battery that is a lot of battery it's thicker by 1.4 millimeters as a result – which you know might not sound like much but when it comes to really skinny

Wrists it's not quite as skinny it is noticeable in your hand you'll feel the difference but for a lot of people they'll take more power and it's still less bulky than say a moto Z with a battery back on the back of the phone – so yeah the regular g7 has a 3000 milliamp battery which is not huge it's not paltry either it's kind of sort of average but given the fact that you have a mid-range CPU you might think your battery life is gonna be great but the display resolution is high enough that is kind of average among Android phones all the way up to you know $750 or so so

You again five and a half hours of screen on time now if you're talking about the g7 power we're talking like 12 hours and screen on time easily that's insane so that's actually use time doing something with the phone not just sitting on your desk sleeping and so for most people this is going to translate into probably up to about three days of battery life before you charge it with that turbocharger fast charging it tops up very quickly too so yes again back to the budget phone thing though another thing you're not gonna get is something like ip68

Water-resistant if this falls on the pool it's all over with folks it has the usual moto water resistant coating you know sort of like rain-x for phones I guess beads up a little bit that sort of things so yeah you have to be careful with this but again in this price range you don't see IP 67 or IP 68 water resistance there's a mono speaker fires from the bottom no stereo speakers either I want to mind it if they manage to find a way to do then we have Marilee they're kind of bezels not granted and wraparound glass as small as something you would find on the samsung galaxy

Phone but for the g7 you have a little teardrop at the top that's all not a big old notch and the earpiece is above that if you look at the g7 power there's a bigger notch there it's front camera and because the earpiece has shifted down a little bit for whatever indezine reasons who knows there's a rear fingerprint scanner pretty easy to look at it works very well there is face unlock it's totally not secure the usual it can be fooled by a picture of you or something like that but if you're not famous how much you worried about this I don't know but yeah

It's really quick the display brightness on these is pretty good used to be budget phones were kind of dim the g7 is just under 500 nits the g7 power is just over 500 nits probably because there's a bigger battery so they're letting you amp up the brightness just a little bit so on a Moto G 7th run Android 99 oppai the latest and greatest version currently of the operating system with Motorola's unusual very light but very useful customizations to improve the usability of the phone we'll talk a little bit more about that but the Moto actions the Moto gestures I like what

They do because they're not overloading it like Huawei can do with their honor phones particularly which do compete outside the US it's a very snappy experience the phone feels fast and fluid the only time it doesn't is if you're playing really demanding games either of these models because mostly the audrina 506 graphics but in day-to-day use it does not feel like oh my god it's a budget phone or something like that at all there is dual band Wi-Fi which is nice the budget phones used to have only single band Wi-Fi thank God we're beyond that

The bad news is it's not really very fast Wi-Fi and it's a little uneven in its performance I'm hoping they have some kind of updates for these two phones because they both have that same problem to improve on that for LTE 4G it's cat 7 so it's not the fastest LTE on the block but in this price range hey it's fine and speeds on LTE are just fine you can download games and all that stuff in fact I found in a faster way to download a lot of stuff from Google Play reliably rather than Wi-Fi hmm there's Bluetooth 4.2 LE here as well and of course a GPS every phone has a GPS again

No NFC so no Google pay for you for your retro folks it does have an FM radio with an app installed as well and it uses the headphone jack yes the headphone jack and plug in some earbuds there and that becomes the antenna for your FM radio for those of you who are moto users all the usual moto gestures and actions are here chopped your flashlight on wave your hand over the phone to automatically have the screen wake up so you can take a look at it and things that are built into all Android phones these days like lift awake tap to wake so the cameras

Both of these have 12 megapixel cameras like I said you can see the specs on screen a little bit faster aperture for a slightly better low-light performance on the g7 vs. the g7 power the g7 as at five megapixel secondary camera for more convincing portrait mode the the fake bokeh kind of thing that it does it neither of them are super great at that but they're decent these days even budget phones can manage that they both do 4k video 30 frames per second they have slow motion they have hyperlapse which is basically fast motion as well panorama mode and you actually have raw

And you have manual camera controls which is nice in a a budget phone how is the camera quality it depends a lot on its software it's pretty obvious there and it kind of over saturates a little bit which a lot of people like and brightens up images without overexposing though which I think most people are going to like and the image is actually given the price of the phone are pretty darn good this is not going to compete with the iPhone 10s or then again the samsung galaxy s 10 or something like that for image quality but they're not bad other than that

A bit of some software has been amping up the look of the the pictures a low-light despite the fact that moto brags a whole lot about their low life software and prowess it's not really very good particularly if you take a look at the picture of the cat sitting in the mir box that was taken in a room with natural light streaming in not far away wasn't a really bright kind of day you know inside but there's enough light there but it looks like it was taken at nighttime so you get the idea this is not going to be your your clubbing camera for sure the video story now coin

Is good I'm it's just about nosewheel stabilization there certainly an optical image stabilization so if you're walking or shooting video it's going to look like the best thing the saturation and the color bias towards a little too warm isn't bit more noticeable here so not really loving the video so there you have it the Moto G 7 and the Moto G 7 power do you want the giant battery life or do you want the kind of thinner is slightly more aesthetically pleasing phone with the extra camera on the back you got choices that's what moto does either way I have to say like I mean in

The United States particularly where some of the budget brands that you might have available in other countries just aren't here I am so glad that moto is still doing this these are great values for your dollar obviously this is not a Samsung Galaxy S 10 competitor it's not as pretty it doesn't have as many features the cameras aren't as great and all that sort of thing but hey for the price it does everything right they're easy to use they're easy to set up battery life is phenomenal on the g7 power and pretty decent you know average among Android phones on the regular g7

The displays are nice enough on these the look is pretty darn good I like them I'm missing from mobile tech review be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more cool tech videos and thumbs up if you like this vid
