Modern Smartphone Trends that Need to Stop

by birtanpublished on November 26, 2020

Hi there this is ranjit and in this video let's talk about this top gimmicky trends that we are seeing on smartphones these days and guys if you know i test a lot of smartphones but i continue to see these stupidity happening again and again and looks like these companies take us for granted so let's talk about the top five trends that i'm seeing on smartphones these days that are sort of a gimmick and this should actually stop and the first thing is if you notice any uh smartphone these days even for mid-range smartphones we are getting that quad camera set up

And most of us think that yeah more cameras are good but it's sort of a gimmick i would say uh because on especially on the mid-range smartphones the last two cameras are sort of a gimmick they generally give you two megapixel for depth and two megapixel for macro and stuff yes macro is good but again it's sort of a gimmick instead of that i would say smartphone company should concentrate on giving uh two or three good cameras for example

The first camera should be good the main camera then secondary we should have a good ultra wide angle lens because you simply cannot get the ultra wide angle with any software tricks but sadly uh many of the phones are giving ultra wide but the sensor on that is uh way lower they generally give eight megapixel stuff but if you have just common sense guys on ultraviolet you are capturing a lot more data a picture so it needs to be a higher megapixel

Count so but we just get it for the namesake ultrawide and the last you know uh that is depth and macro depth actually you don't need it because uh if you notice many of the smartphones though they have a single camera on the front they get that depth uh effect also because this can be easily these days achieve via software algorithms so i don't uh get the point of having a separate depth camera and in fact the stupidity goes uh i

Would say it's sad to see that even in some of the higher end smartphones they say they have dual camera one might be a good one that is a 48 megapixel or something and the secondary one will be just a depth why do you need that instead of that give a ultra wide or something like that uh i would say uh the first one should be a regular camera lens good one second should be ultra wide third if you really want to give give a what do you say zoom lens like

Proper 2x or 3x optical zoom that makes a lot of sense no but we are going to get gimmicks and and claiming four cameras five cameras at the back so this should stop and with macro i would say uh this can be actually implemented with a single camera uh so one of the recent motorola phones that i had reviewed uh though it was a triple camera uh what do you say a main camera then we have ultra white

And then we had a zoom and they could implement the macro within the main camera so that is simply possible but again it's the typical what do you say they're trying to make us fool thinking that yes if your smartphone has more cameras at the back it will be better and sadly this is happening a lot now moving to the front facing camera now we have started seeing this trend of that double uh camera even on the front even on mid-range smartphones yes don't get me wrong i like that

Second camera that's ultra wide but again the problem is that to implement that uh dual camera they are making two punch holes or worse they make a pill shape for example uh i we saw that first with the samsung galaxy s10 plus i never liked that pill but now we are seeing the same trend in a lot of mid-range smartphones and trust me guys when you're watching videos and stuff uh that pill always distracts you even after a couple of months i still notice that built in the widescreen mode so i feel that's a silly trend that we

Are seeing a build-shaped notch now on a mid-range smartphone instead of that i would say manufacturers should give a single camera maybe a punch hole or whatever or even a pop-up i would say probably not not a big fan of it because of the mechanical nature but yeah a single camera is more than enough and make it wide enough and with using software you can manipulate for example if you notice the samsung galaxy s20 series they do

That it's a single front facing camera and if you're just taking a regular shot like this uh you fit in but if one more person comes in the frame it detects that and switches to the slightly wider angle lens so they can put slightly wider angle lens in the front facing camera thereby omitting that stupid double pill notch do let me know do you like those pill notches on your smartphones would love to know that i personally hate it anyways now moving

To the third thing this is a very irritating thing that i'm seeing uh and if you notice uh a mid-range smartphone these days those don't even come with the amoled screen they might have a regular ips or a tft screen on many of these smartphones i'm noticing that the physical led notification light is simply missing and this is such a big omission but i'm seeing this a lot on modern smartphones uh so again uh if you're

The phone is just lying there because it does not have a physical led notification light you don't know if you had an important notification or not uh yes if you have an amoled screen and it has that always on display option then you can omit it but i see this a lot on modern smartphones that don't have an amoled screen or don't have a always on display but still omit the physical led notification light uh do let me know what do you think

About the physical led notification light i find it very irritating and this is a very sad trend that i'm seeing on a lot of smartphones these days next is uh removal of the headphone jack this started with the high-end smartphones and these days i would say most of the new uh android high-end smartphones don't have it sadly i'm testing this rog phone three uh the rog ii had a physical what do you say headphone jack this does not have that

That's a sad trend that we are seeing in the high-end smartphones uh but now this is slowly trickling even in the mid-range smartphones some of the new uh phones that i've seen below 30 000 are now omitting the headphone jack and they don't even have a stereo speaker so i don't get it why this stupidity and many of the vendors these days the sad trend is that they don't even include a three point that usb type c to a 3.5 inch dongle in the box so a person who's buying a midrange smartphone or

Something like that has to invest extra in a bluetooth headset or something and again because these phones the mid-range phones don't have powerful stereo speakers it simply does not make any sense but vs consumers are simply accepting that and guys uh for gaming and stuff people keep asking me i i still say a wired headset is way better than most of the bluetooth headset with with even very advanced bluetooth headset there is a micro lag that you'll notice

That will simply be not there with a wired headset but again this is a sad trend we are seeing and now slowly this side trend is crippling even in the mid-range smartphones which is very annoying i would say and uh this is a small thing that i'm noticing again this is important for mid-range smartphones if you notice uh from the past seven eight months almost a year most of the mid-range phones are also having that almost full view display

Uh that is the new aspect ratio that we are having and it's nice to look at because the bezels are very thin on the top so it looks very cool but the side effect of this what i've noticed in some of the mid-range smartphones that i had reviewed recently for example from redmi even realme is that generally the proximity sensor is there on the small bezel over here but on many of these new smartphones i feel the proximity sensor is taking a hit because when i was testing them many of the phones when you take the calls like

This because the proximity sensor is not big enough or not calibrated enough the screen just lights up when you're talking and this actually uh all those buttons on the screen can get activated for example it can even disconnect calls and this is happening a lot lately i've noticed on mid-range smartphones i've noticed that on some of the redmi phones some of the what do you say uh real me phones and even one motorola phone so this is an

Issue and uh these manufacturers need to address this one concentrate a little bit on the proximity sensor because that's such an important thing they're just concentrating on the design aspect this fortunately does not happen on the premium handset so it's not like these manufacturers cannot do it because the premium smartphone manufacturers are doing it from a long time and it's unacceptable to have a bad proximity sensor because every time you take a call you're talking the screen will just

Light up go off light up go off very irritating i would say and if it's on an important call it can even get disconnected randomly so this is a sad trend that uh i'm seeing a lot uh so these are some of the annoying things that i'm seeing uh today in the smartphone industry and things should be improved but some of the gimmicky things should be stopped what do you think about this same uh one trend i want to see on mid-range android smartphones is that uh i don't know if it will happen or not

But i want stereo speakers to come on a mid-range android smartphone that will be a big innovation i would say instead of these stupid gimmicks instead of room uh i would be uh very happy if they remove some of the gimmicks and give us a stereo speaker in a mid-range android smartphone because trust me guys these days we are consuming a lot of content on our smartphones for example watching videos even playing games and when you have

That stereo speaker actually it makes a lot of difference i would say so i hope that comes instead of the stupid gimmicks so these are my top five gimmicks that i'm noticing on modern smartphones what do you think about the same do you think you have one or two features on your smartphone which you think was a gimmick if so do let me know in the comment section below anyways guys that's it for now thanks for watching

This is ranjit and i hope to see you in my next video take care guys
