BRENDA GRETTENBERGER:
Right now, we're

in the middle of peak
season for reindeer visits

You know, the reindeer are
helping Santa get everything

organized for Christmas

We're down to the last week

Everybody needs to be healthy
so that Santa can do his thing

NARRATOR: At Rooftop Landing,
their lead reindeer, Yeti,

has been grounded

DAN ALDRICH: Yeti is
very important to us

He's a main part of our herd

He's on the road at
least a few days a week

[yeti snorts]

Yeti's got an eye
irritation that we're

just not quite sure about

Hopefully, it's
nothing too major

But now we've got some
cloudiness in the eye

That little bothers
me a little bit more

NARRATOR: If Yeti
loses his sight,

he won't be able to guide
Santa's sleigh on Christmas

night

Let's bring her out and
we can see her better

First day, it was
rolled over like that

BRENDA GRETTENBERGER: Yeah

It's got a lot of
crustiness in the eye

The eye's got some edema
in it, which makes it look

cloudy or blue kind of colored

Hang on, babes

We're going to check
for a corneal ulcer,

which would be a scratch or
some kind of abrasion on it

with stain

OK, now we'll just
let him stand

It will seek to expose proteins

So if the cornea is
scratched, it'll stick to that

and go from bright
orange to lime green

NARRATOR: A corneal ulcer
can lead to impaired vision–

BRENDA GRETTENBERGER:
Hang on, babes

NARRATOR: –or even blindness

BRENDA GRETTENBERGER:
And we have

nothing on there right now

So that's good

He's got a little
bit of infection

in there and some edema

But he hasn't scratched the
layers of the cornea off

And that's what the
stain tests would

have shown us to begin with
– All right

BRENDA GRETTENBERGER:
There's no ulcer

Yeti's eye is infected

BRENDA GRETTENBERGER:
It's antibiotic ointment

And, hopefully, we, it
will get that swelling down

and get it down some

DAN ALDRICH: She gave us
a couple of antibiotics

to put in the eyes for the
next three or four days

and sounds like it should clear
up without much of a problem

BRENDA GRETTENBERGER: I'm just
really working the eyelids

I'm not–

Oh, you're a lot
better at that than I am

[laughs]

BRENDA GRETTENBERGER:
At this point,

I think Yeti's going
to keep his eye

I don't see any reason
why he would lose the eye

All right

So use this until it's better

Five days, maybe a week

We'll get him healed up and
he'll be ready to go back out

and show off for Santa

If we don't see you,
have a good Christmas

You, too

DAN ALDRICH: Dr
Brenda is a huge part

of what goes on around here

We call her our lifeline

She pretty much
figures it all out

NARRATOR: Thanks to
Dr Brenda, Yeti should

be flying high in no time
