iPad Mini 5 In Late 2020! (Still Worth It?) (Review)

Welcome back everyone time to do another late 2020 review of the ipad mini that's actually still the most current ipad mini that ever came out which is the ipad mini 5. now this ipad came out early last year around that march time frame and i believe this was one of those ipads that apple pushed out in like a week or like half a week where they were like releasing a new product like every day of that week which is so crazy i literally love that time frame but this ipad mini 5 i still think is a super decent value for the most

Part it's definitely not the best value i think the ipad 10.2 inch is an extremely good value that eighth generation but this ipad mini 5 if you have it it doesn't really get too much better than this in terms of a portable ipad that's this size since they haven't made a new one but i still think for the most part it's a tremendous thing and i have heard rumors of apple actually releasing the next generation of this

I don't know how verifiable that is i don't know when that's going to happen but for now for sure this ipad is still a tremendous ipad for sure now pricing wise this thing whatever it costs i'll find the cheapest one on amazon i'll link it down in the description below you guys can get it from there and help support the channel at the same time now starting off with the front of this ipad has that 7.9 inch ips panel it's a retina panel for sure it's 1536 by 2048 and for sure at the end of the day

It's not a bad or ugly panel itself you know it's not a bad panel like i stated before it gets the job done however there is quite a bit of bezel around this you know it has pretty big top bezel it's a pretty big bottom bezel and it has that home button so take that as you will i don't think that should be a deal breaker but do keep in mind that it is a little bit of an older design whether it's a big deal to you or not that's totally up to you for me honestly i don't think it's going

To be that big of a deal i think it honestly gets the job done and i don't think it would stop me you know from using it or anything but that is definitely something to keep in mind on the bottom it has a lightning port that actually supports the apple pencil one so if you want to go ahead and plug it in there you can go and do it and use it as an apple pencil and on the back you have that standard aluminum frame which still feels extremely premium the sad bad doesn't feel cheap which is a huge asset for it and it also has that

Single camera setup on the back now hitting on the camera is an 8 megapixel sensor and i think like i said before not a bad camera you know for an ipad it gets the job done i think this thing has the same thing as the ipad or three and whatever you're gonna do with it whatever you're gonna you know utilize for it for an ipad's sake it's gonna get the job done facetime video calls zoom calls microsoft teams whatever you're gonna do with this ipad mini 5 is going to get the job

Done but do keep in mind i would not recommend using this ipad camera if you're trying to shoot videos if you're trying to take any crazy photos this thing pretty much has the same type of camera setup as something like an iphone 6 so kind of keep that in mind if you know imagine you know ask yourself would you use an iphone 6 in this case that is pretty much the same priority list of how i put this ipad mini 5 on the front it has that 7 megapixel sensor you can do 1080p videos on that and even that is a really good sensor

Too i mean both the front and the back can shoot the same resolutions which is really convenient that's kind of what we're seeing now with the iphones 4k 60 on the front 4k 60 on the back but this is definitely by no means a bad camera but for an ipad it gets the job done and you know i think the camera is a byproduct of you know using this thing so for sure at the end of the day the camera gets thumbs up from me and my books it's definitely not the best camera by any means but it gets the job done for sure now zooming out of

The camera and looking around the whole entire body i mean that really pretty much covers it up for the most part there's there's really not that much more to hit on here now software wise this thing is currently running ipad os 14 and because it has that e12 chip inside of it this thing is gonna last for a pretty long time to keep this in perspective the ipad pro 4th generation whatever both models they actually still have a base a12 chip so those are probably going to last longer

Than this one but it's still going to be lasting for a very very long time both of these including the ipad mini 5. so the mini 5 is going to be lasting for many many years it's not like you're going to pick it up now and feel like you have an outdated machine so keep that in mind but the software is actually really good on these machines too i mean you can go ahead and you know use this thing time and time again it's going to be getting way more features ipad os 14 has been pretty good on pretty much all ipads

If i had to put a number on it i would probably say this thing's gonna get or probably get unsupported around 2023 or 2024 maybe longer maybe a little bit shorter but definitely around that time frame so for the time being you're definitely going to be perfectly okay now moving on to the performance side of things this thing has that apple a12 bionic chip inside of it three gigabytes of ram now this is how i'll basically break this down if you're trying to substitute your macbookers and imac or

Something and you're like oh i don't need those i need to get an ipad mini or you know i need an ipad i will tell you you're going to have to kind of level out your expectations or at least be aware of this specific ipad because i truly believe an ipad could probably overdo or you know do basically what a macbook or imac can do but i don't think it can do everything that those machines can do you know now with an ipad for example i mean this thing's smoothness is out of this world it can do a lot for sure and i've always had smoother

Experiences on ipads than macbooks or imacs so definitely keep that in mind and also this thing supports the apple pencil which is something that a lot of creatives use now if you're somebody who doesn't need to do a lot of gaming if you're somebody who doesn't need to do a lot of video editing and stuff then i i would say this is probably a really good ipad for it because it has a smaller screen it doesn't really have a crazy big screen but it's so portable and so light that you can just throw

This thing in a book bag or even put it in a binder or a notebook put in your stack of notebooks or something and take it with you to class to class or because mostly everything's online you can really do everything you need to on this specific ipad and i think that's a huge asset for this type of machine but the only downside of this specific ipad just like how i said with the ipad air 3 would probably come in the form of the ram because it only has three gigs of ram that doesn't really make this thing you know stand out to me in any way

And i think that's kind of like an average amount of ram to happen nowadays considering all iphones have four gigs of ram macbooks are in imax are only getting more ram and these ipads are only getting more and more ram as well with three gigs i think it's okay for the most part but you're definitely going to feel like if you're running a lot of these big games if you're running a lot of these bigger apps you're going to find yourself having a lot of programs closing down in the background i'll give you an example if you're a student and you're writing

Out a paper let's say it's your final paper or whatever and you have to go you know just kind of swipe between you know your notebook on your ipad you have to swipe between your images and your googling stuff and all that and so forth you have a higher chance on something with a lower amount of ram of those apps actually crashing so just imagine you go back to you know your paper that you're writing now chances are maybe if you're lucky it'll go and still save that paper out and it'll you know

Be saved to the cloud or whatever but if not then you're gonna be you know have to restart your paper every single time that happens and that's a super unfortunate thing i don't know how often that's gonna happen but it's definitely something to kind of keep in mind at the end of the day so in terms of performance i'll say it's great it's not amazing but it's definitely smooth i feel like the ram is the main portion of where the specific ipad kind of lies in so in terms of performance that pretty much

Covers it up now ending it off with the battery life this thing has a 5 124 milliamp hour battery and i think like i said before that is a pretty decent sized battery to have on this machine considering the fact that it is a smaller you know ipad it's out it's not outdated completely but it is a little bit dated and because it does have a pretty decent sized battery in it it's actually not that bad but do keep in mind like i always say you're probably better off getting an ipad that has you know more of a bigger

Battery size in it something like an ipad air 3 that is actually pretty decent in the battery life department or even an ipad pro with these ipad mini 5s they're a little bit different but i would still say the battery life is probably better than not so to kind of sum with this video and say answer the question should you go and pick up an ipad mini 3 well what i can tell you was is that for sure at the end of the day the ipad mini 3 has so much going for it that it's not even funny

I mean this ipad will definitely stand the test of time it has a lot of capability and it's not outdated it's not ugly and it has a lot going for it but i feel like at the end of the day some certain things with this ipad there it does kind of you know rub me the wrong way sometimes and what i basically mean by that is you know with the battery life it's not the best it's not horrible but it could have definitely been better in my opinion with the performance that is another area where i feel like this ipad

Doesn't really perfect and the ram management portion is something that i do feel like the ipad could have done a little bit better in even the cameras you know the camera department it's not the best you know i feel like it could have been a little bit better but at least this thing hasn't you know a camera at least this thing's performance is still extremely smooth for the most part even though it's not the you know most highest performing machine it's still a pretty good performing machine at the

End of the day even though the battery life doesn't last insanely long it still has a really good decent battery life to it and if you're around a lighting charger which i'm sure a lot of you are you're going to be getting a really decent machine you're getting apple pencil support ipad os 14 and ipad support for an insanely long amount of time it's not like this ipad is going to be outdated tomorrow so like i said before that's another huge thing about this ipad and for sure at the end of the day
