How to create Alita: Battle Angel style anime eyes
Hey guys, welcome back to another HitFilm tutorial. Alita Battle Angel recently launched and in this film they took CG and mo-cap to a completely new level to recreate the famous manga character Alita. We’re looking at creating the iconic Alita look with zero budget. Let’s see how it’s done! Create two Point layers, one for the left eye, and one for the right. Select your footage layer and in the Controls panel, click the plus icon next to tracks. This will bring
You into the tracking setup. Position the red box over your actor’s eye, and the green box based on how much they move in the scene. If it’s a lot, make the green box bigger. This is the search area for the track. Click the Track Forward button and let HitFilm track your footage. Once finished, select the corresponding Point under Layer, then hit Apply. Repeat this process for the other eye. Create a separate Tracker, and attach the result to the other eye Point.
With both eyes tracked, add the first Bulge effect to your video layer. Drop down the Center controls and set Use Layer to one of the eye Points. Now use either the sliders in the Controls panel, or the onscreen widgets to adjust the Bulge effect to fit your scene. Once happy, duplicate the Bulge. Under Center, change Use Layer to the other Point. You shouldn’t have to make too many adjustments to get this one to fit. And that’s it! Super simple effect with a lot of fun applications.
Oli: It’s as easy as that. We’d love to see what creative stuff you do with this effect so be sure to share your work on Facebook and Twitter and tag us in it! If you have any questions, leave them down below and we’ll see you in the next video.
