Hidden Apple Easter Eggs! 10+ Secrets

by birtanpublished on April 4, 2021

yo what's up guys sam here so apple Easter eggs you know the little secrets that Apple or any company can hide in their products so that if you know about the joke or the inside deal then you know you get it apples included a lot of those across the iPhone and across the Mac and today I want to look at just some of the coolest ones you may have seen some of these before but others I guarantee you have never even heard of I got pretty emotionally involved in this list because some of these get wild so drop a like if you're as excited as I am hit subscribe for more and let's go

Ahead and get started with number one first up is the voice memos icon now at first glance this appears to follow the same design structure is all of Apple's other app icons for example compass looks like a compass calculator looks like a baby version of a calculator and of course voice memos looks like the audio waveform you see whenever you record audio but if you look a little bit closer you'll see that the waveform actually wasn't just here for aesthetic purposes you can actually recreate it saying one word can you guess what it is it's Apple this one really got me

Because I used the voice memos app all the time and I thought it was just like an example of what some audio would look like if you recorded it but no it's literally the word Apple following that for a brief time on an Apple support page that has now been deleted Apple included a rickroll now for those of you not familiar with the meme here it's like a long-running internet type of deal where you basically send somebody a link and you say it's one thing and then they click on it and it's Rick Astley singing like never gonna give you up you know let you down that whole shebang so

Apple did the same thing on an Apple watch page just by the click of a button you could send a digital touch message like a heartbeat to one of your favorite contacts and it would abbreviate their first name and their last name with just two letters and as you can see here it's not actually an E and ve it's never gonna give you up a clear ode to Rick Astley's 1987 smash hit that we've probably all fallen far at one point in our lives I also just said far because I'm from the Midwest heading over to Safari now everybody's favorite web browser you can see there's a section of

It called read it later essentially if you find an article that you don't have time to read now you can send it there and then you can have it for quick access in just a little bit so when you do that you'll see an icon right here it's a pair of glasses but it's not just any pair of glasses this is the pair of frames that Steve Jobs was famed to wear and arguably the most iconic photo of him ever right here you can tell for sure this is his pair of frames and it's pretty cool that it's sort of a piece of history tied in there every time you want to read something later

Speaking of Steve Jobs this one is available exclusively on the Mac whenever you set up a Mac for the first time Apple's gonna ask you to set up an icon for your user profile so you got all these different pre-made ones you can take a picture yourself use a custom one that you drag in a little bit later but in the pre-made selection here there's an image of a record now when you're looking at it from this perspective right here just going through you can't tell it all what the record says but set it and then go back to edit it and Apple allows you the

Ability to zoom in a little bit and if you zoom in for of Steve Jobs most famed keynote words up here magic revolution boom and unbelievable are the name of the tracks on this album but those are actually his most used phrases over the course of Apple keynotes during his lifetime in Apple's fascination with Easter eggs hasn't stopped in fact so recent as September of 2019 Apple released a promotional video going over in a hundred and eight seconds everything they announced at their September event initially in what appeared to be an encoding error for the

Video if you actually stopped at just the right second you can see a secret message that literally caused the Easter egg hunters out this one's pretty cool it says this is just a thought but it might be nice to have some sort of Easter egg message in here for the hardcore Apple fans that will stop the video and below is a string of binary text once decoded here's what it says so you took the time to translate this we love you thanks Apple we love you too now if you consider yourself to be one of those hardcore Apple fans you may have tuned into one of Apple's many

Keynotes over the years and even on Apple's website if you look at pictures of the new iPhone or the new iPad or pretty much any Apple product out there you may have noticed something strange in every single screenshot whether it's on stage and an event or on Apple's website the phones are locked to one specific time and that's 941 am it may be logical to think that there's some kind of psychological trick here at play that 941 will make us buy more phones than if it said 1041 or 729 p.m. but it's actually a lot simpler than that when Apple was planning the original

IPhone unveil keynote in January of 2007 they knew the product would be announced about 40 minutes into the presentation so to make it feel as if the people in the audience were really experiencing everything in real time Apple wanted the big font on the screen to say the time that it initially was which was about 9:40 1:00 a.m. so no it's not a marketing trick although I mean it very well could be now that we've learned that that's just the time we should see in every Apple screenshot but yeah it's just because Apple wanted it to feel real and when you looked at your watch

In the audience you'd see that same time up on screen for this next Easter egg you have to have a really brief understanding of trademark law now when Apple first became a company there was already a company in existence called Apple Records which was the record label for the Beatles and they said that's cool you can use Apple computers so long as you never really touch anything on the audio side of things as we have that trademark and that's how it works two different entities can own the same trademark but it has to be in different areas of operation they really can't

Overlap well years down the road and development of the Macintosh obviously Apple wanted to add sounds because sounds really important when the lawsuit was over Apple had to rename all of their sound effects that had names of instruments and one was called xylophone that an Apple employee had created it's actually still on the Mac right now and it sounds like this as a joke in light of the recent lawsuit the employee thought it'd be funny to rename the sound effect to let it be a clear ode to the Beatles head let it be but when Apple lawyers found out about

It they said there's no way you can actually name it that so joking me again the employee said well so sue me and if you look closely at that sound effects name now it doesn't say so sue me literally but it says so sue me which is a pretty clear ode to the Beatles lawsuit and it was a really long story I hope you guys enjoyed it drop a like for this down below but that's where the name of the sound effect came from crazy amount of history behind that alone moving on to this next Easter Egg one of the standout qualities in Apple ads is

That a lot of the time they don't even focus on the product itself but rather how that product will make you feel or their intention this all started in 1997 with one of the most successful ad campaigns ever that you've probably heard of think different not at one point during the spot did you see anybody using an Apple product and the name Apple wasn't even mentioned until the and when he saw the logo but it paired the idea of greatness with an insanely powerful narration now hidden among a ton of actually really cool system icons

Like your Mac just by default has pretty much every Apple product made in recent history and a really high res format on there amongst those there is this icon right here which displays the text here's to the crazy ones The Misfits rebels that iconic voiceover is here it actually used to be more prominent though in fact this was the exact text edit icon it featured what appeared to be a letter but actually just included the text for that ad campaign now Apple change it to be a bit more flat less detailed in a more recent Mac OS update and I kind of missed this one has some

More personality and it wasn't so bland another iconic Apple feature is of course the spinning wheel of death now the look of it has changed a little bit over the years but it's always been a spinning ball people usually call it the beach ball or like the spinning wheel of death that it goes by a lot of different aliases but this isn't actually just like a beach ball because beach balls are fun as it turns out this is actually based off of a real-world magneto optical disc so just as that would be spinning and reflecting and refracting light Apple wanted to represent that

Virtually on screen as well to let you know that your computer was thinking or processing something and that things weren't exactly looking too good now also on the Mac if we go back just a few years to 2012 2013 to the era of Mac OS 10 mountain lion there was a weird glitch quote-unquote that would happen whenever you downloaded an app from the App Store instead of showing the current date or even telling you that it was just recently modified it would display January 24th 1984 which – the comment I would be a really strange day considering that was a very long time

Ago even in the early 2010's but that date is actually really significant it's when the first ever Macintosh was introduced and Apple brought that computer in front of the world for the first time and later on down the road that led to new computers like the Macintosh se so here on the ROM chip of the Macintosh se if you went inside the debugger and typed in a unique phrase it was sort of a secret you'd be presented with this four images in slideshow format of the original Macintosh se dev team now today obviously Apple can't do this because the dev team is for a new

IPhone or likely in the thousands or tens of thousands but back in the day at the dawn of the computing era how much cooler would it be to be immortalized than like this but of course this Easter Egg video would not be complete without taking a brief look at Apple's greatest success of all time Apple Maps of course I'm being ironic this is a complete disaster from the very first look at the maps at which was the icon I promise you I'm not making this up this is real quality content right here Apple literally recommended driving off of a bridge onto the highway but since then

Of course Apple has gotten a lot better with Apple maps they've been revamped Apple has mapped forestry in great detail to me it looks it sounds it feels a lot better than Google Maps and apples also been updating the icon over the years as well in fact you know apples crazy circular campus that's what the top right corner of the maps icon is in fact this is a real place now Apple took some Liberty and making it small to actually fit in an icon but the 280 Apple's campus is right off of that highway in California from what I hear it looks even more wild in person and

Normal people can actually go to the Apple campus themselves you can go to the Apple visitor center they have a really cool area set up with some exclusive merch and that's how I want to close out this video Apple has a ton of exclusive stuff at their HQ that you can only obtain at that store in Cupertino California and nowhere else so if you're looking for a good little fun spots and go with you and the S oh the old significant other you know I'm sure they would love nothing more than to visit apples headquarters and just revel in the cool

History that's there and that's what this list was about it was about fun is about history and I hope you really enjoyed it that's all I've got in this video thanks so much for watching and I'll see all of you in my next one
