Google Pixel 5 Unboxing & First Impressions! (Sorta Sage Green)

by birtanpublished on November 4, 2020

What's going on guys my name is wade with tech daily and in this video we're going to be checking out the new google pixel 5. now i have to say right off the bat that i'm personally really excited about this phone you guys know how much i loved the pixel 4a from earlier this year and while yes this new pixel 5 is technically google's latest flagship phone rather than i think aiming to compete at some thousand dollar price point this time around google just decided to take everything that was great about the

Popular cheaper pixel 4a and make a slightly bigger and better phone with this pixel 5. all while i think still keeping the price just right there's obviously some stiff competition this year in that 600 to 700 price range which is where this phone falls so let's go ahead and check this device out and see everything it has to offer first things first we'll go ahead and see what all comes inside the package and of course i want to give a big shout

Out to the folks over at team pixel who were kind enough to send this phone over early for me to check out so pulling off the lid of the box the first thing we see is the phone itself this year the pixel 5 comes in just two colors just black and the sorta sage which is what i have here and i think this is absolutely the color to go with digging a little deeper inside the box you'll also find a small packet of paperwork and instructions along with a sim ejector tool and

Underneath all of that there are a few accessories that come with the phone the pixel 5 ships with the 18 watt usbc fast charger and usbc charging cable both of which we've seen before and also still included this year is that handy little usba to usbc dongle which is helpful for transferring your data from your old phone to your new pixel device with all that stuff out of the way here is the new pixel 5 and right away there's a lot to go over with this device

But i first want to talk about the design and build the pixel 5 is a six inch device by comparison the pixel 4a came in at just over 5.8 inches so this phone is a little bigger but still a comfortable compact device and in a world of six and a half inch smartphones i think this definitely fills the need for folks who want something they can use easily with one hand and that can also fit more comfortably in a pocket up front you'll

Also see that compared to the pixel 4 from last year this new pixel 5 has really no bezels at all you've got a corner camera cut out at the top not much of a chin at all down below and a pretty high screen to body ratio overall it's certainly a fresh modern looking phone from the front and around back i think it looks pretty good too the pixel 5 is constructed from recycled aluminum and the metal body and frame are actually covered in a light

Textured coating this gives the phone almost a matte feel maybe just slightly rougher and it feels great in the hand it's sturdy yet still lightweight and premium feeling enough without having to run the risk of a fancy glass back getting shattered with the first drop and interestingly enough even through that metal back the pixel 5 still offers wireless charging and reverse wireless charging it's also ip68 water and dust resistant too so all in all you've got the complete

Package here with a build and taking a look around at everything else on the left side towards the bottom you'll see just the sim card tray unfortunately no sd card support here on the right there's the volume buttons and power button which this year has a shiny polished chrome finish down below there's the usbc port microphone and one of two speakers the other is in the earpiece giving this phone a dual stereo speaker setup just like what we had on the pixel 4a

And i think it's a great sounding setup here's just a quick sample so you can get an idea around back you'll see a new camera setup which includes the familiar 12.2 megapixel main lens but now a 16 megapixel ultra wide shooter as well and i'll talk about that in just a second there's also a rear mounted fingerprint sensor just below that which is interesting only because last year the pixel 4 got rid of the fingerprint sensor

With the pixel 5 google brought it back and it's the same sort of setup that we saw on the pixel 4a it's placed just right it's fast it's accurate easy to feel for and i'm really glad to see its return on this phone i think it was the right move bringing it back by the way with the new pixel 5 of course google also launched a few new cases and accessories to go with it this case here that they sent me with the phone is from their fabric case line which is made from

Recycled materials the color is green chameleon but there are plenty of other options to choose from it's a pretty high quality case actually it's thick material around back and a soft microfiber material inside to keep the phone protected and while i'd like to show off that unique green color of the phone and i'm also pretty confident in the materials it's still great that google continues to make some high quality cases to keep your phone protected if you're interested the 6-inch display on the pixel 5

Is a 2340 by 1080 resolution oled panel that packs in around 432 pixels per inch it's covered in the new gorilla glass 6 so it should be tougher than ever and with hdr 10 plus support i think content is gonna look really great on this phone but the thing that has me most excited is the fact that it is a high refresh rate 90hz display it's enabled by default and i think right away you can really get a sense of just how

Smooth and snappy this phone feels it's even more responsive with every tap touch and swipe it makes the phone feel just that much faster and i'm personally of the opinion now that once you experience a high refresh rate screen it's kind of hard to enjoy anything else besides that though the viewing experience in general obviously looks very nice i feel like the pixel 5 is that right balance of size and resolution and overall i just don't have any

Complaints inside the pixel 5 is powered by the snapdragon 765g chipset an adreno 620 gpu eight gigabytes of ram 120 gigabytes of storage and the largest battery ever offered on a pixel device at 4080 milliamps now since i only just got this phone i can't comment too much on performance yet i'm looking forward to putting the device to the test in the coming days but

I will say this obviously with pixel devices you're getting the most highly optimized software experience since it's coming direct from google this phone even ships with android 11 and i think the software experience alone with how well optimized the phone is and the little google pixel specific tweaks and extras you do get is one of the biggest reasons why people do gravitate towards these phones however if we're doing some direct comparisons

Other smartphones at a similar price do have better specs like the snapdragon 865 found in the similarly priced s20 fe for example so i do want to be fair and objective and say that the pixel 5 isn't totally specked out to the max but i'm interested to see how much that really matters when i start to do some comparisons in the end you're still getting the highest level sort of upper mid-tier processor with 5g support

And perhaps opting for anything more might have caused google to drive up the price on this device if they also wanted 5g which maybe would not have been the best decision around back google also made an interesting choice with the camera setup while we once again get the same 12.2 megapixel f 1.7 aperture main lens we've had countless times before this time the secondary lens is a 107 degree 16 megapixel f 2.2 aperture ultra wide shooter i'm fairly confident

The pixel 5 will still be one of if not the best smartphone cameras out there for pictures but i think it was an interesting decision for google to migrate over to this ultra wide setup versus the telephoto they had last year and i'm excited to see how it works out with some real world shooting i was able to snap just a couple of pictures after unboxing this phone just to compare but i'm of course looking forward to going all out here

Very soon and by the way up front we get the 8 megapixel f 2.0 aperture selfie lens once again but just like with the rear setup specs aren't everything and i think this pixel 5 once again will take some absolutely amazing selfies because of how well google can process and optimize its images so there you go those are my initial thoughts and first impressions on the new google pixel 5. there's a lot to like about this phone and i'm really looking forward to using

It these next few days to see what it's all about but what do you guys think about this phone are you interested in picking it up yourself let me know in the comments down below i'd love to hear your thoughts of course but hopefully you guys did enjoy this video be sure to follow tech daily on twitter and subscribe to the tech daily youtube channel if you haven't already and i'll see you guys later
