Galaxy S10, S10e, S10 Plus or S10 5G: Which should you buy?

by birtanpublished on November 23, 2020

So you want to buy a new Samsung Galaxy S a few years back that will be the end of your decision-making process but not in 2019 no this year there are three quite different models to choose from or four if you want to get even more technical so in this video we're going to break down the main differences between the various s10 models and figure out who exactly each of the S 10 s 10 plus s 10 e and s 10 5g is actually for take a site to subscribe for even more s 10 videos and we'll jump in first let's get an idea of the core specs are the same across every single S 10 model you got the same Exynos 98 20 process

Old snapdragon 855 here in the US they all share the same main camera a 12 megapixel super speed dual pixel unit with 1.4 micron pixels and a variable aperture between F 1.5 and 2.4 so you can switch between the two for best performance in daylight or low-light all 4s 10s share the same impressive F 2.2 16 megapixel ultra wide camera – this has been more my favorite parts of the S 10 camera experience overall and with it you get the same array of video options including really great software stabilization of course depending on which model you choose you'll get

Between one and two additional cameras around the back and all four models have the same pretty good but not superlative 10 megapixels selfie camera they're all water and dust resistant rated ip68 and they all have adaptive fast wired charting plus fast while it's charging plus that all-important and increasingly rare headphone jack so let's pivot to the s10 e for a second this is Samsung's not-so-subtle answer to the iPhone 10 are a cheaper smaller model that offers a different balance of features compared to the standard s10 it has all the core specs I just mentioned

That make it a true undiluted Galaxy S 10 it's got the same field quality as the other bottles too with a chassis clad in metal and glass in a wide variety of colors it's got a flat five point eight inch full HD + dynamic AMOLED display with that hole-punch camera in the screen there's a choice of between 6 gigs of ram 128 gigs of storage or 8 + 256 or a little extra cash you still get a microSD slot for easy expansion though given that it's physically the smallest s tower model you also get the lowest battery capacity the entire range though it's still

Perfectly acceptable 3,100 milliamp hours in our full review a C's Andrew martynuk found that the s10 he was able to last a full day with around four hours of screen on time it definitely isn't a multi-day phone though the s10 II is by far the easiest of the entire range to use with one hand so if you're not a fan of big phones this might be the best fit for you even more so than the standard s10 what's more you even benefit from this very fast side-mounted a fingerprint scanner plus you can set it up as an easy one-handed shortcut to pull down the notification shade

Obviously you can't do that on any of the other models with an in screen fingerprint scanner the core s10 camera experience is there in the s10 II and that's about it I think Samsung made the right decision to keep the ultra wide camera in the s10 II instead of the telephoto after all digital zoom will get you a lot of the way towards a 2x crop whereas there is simply no software substitute for wide-angle photography the standard galaxy s 10 is a bit of a weird one for some folks this will be the Goldilocks phone not too big not too small but just

Right with basically all the specs of the galaxy s 10 plus but in a small chassis that doesn't feel like a huge phone so the upgrades include a pump up to 8 gigabytes of RAM is standard with options all the way up to 512 gigabytes plus the addition of premium features like a curved dynamic AMOLED screen at a higher quad HD plus resolution it's also a little larger at six point one inches diagonally so it doesn't feel quite as cramped as the s10 sometimes does it's basically feels like a normal phone as opposed to an extra-large phone plus there's no real camera compromise

Between the s10 and s10 Plus around the back you get the previously mentioned standard and ultra wide cameras plus an optically stabilized 2 x telephoto camera you'll have to make do with just one selfie camera though on the standard s10 so front-facing portrait shots might not look as impressive as what the pluses dual selfie array can produce I want to say that's a very small trade-off for most people though there's a decent boost of battery capacity in this model too with the standard s10 upgrading to a 34 hundred million power cell around a 10 percent bump from the

S10 II however the difference in day-to-day longevity isn't all that noticeable the main caveat with the s10 is you're paying a lot extra for what overall is not really a huge bump up from the s10 II and at the same time a small jump in price beyond the regular s10 gets you the s10 Plus which comes with a much bigger battery and that all-important bigger screen for the past few generations the plus models of Galaxy S phones have been the big sellers and so a lot of people who don't get the s10 a

Just because it's cheaper or smaller are probably gonna default to the plus and look this guy ranks as our best overall Android phone that you can buy right now so if in doubt this is the one most Android enthusiasts should probably be considering at the same time features like a gigantic 4100 million power battery and a 6 point 4 inch display in an incredibly economical package will make the S 10 plus appealing to just about everyone this model really delivers on every aspect of the big phone experience plus if you go for the top-end model with 12 gigs of RAM and

One terabyte of storage which sells for well into 4 figures in most countries you also get a fancy exclusive ceramic bag which is not available in any of the other s tens the major downsides to this include the double width screen cutout for the dual cameras around the front which may be jarring for some people personally I've adjusted to it just fine also the extra large size and smooth glass plus metal construction means it does feel a little bit slippery in the hand compared to the smaller s 10 models that's really nitpicking though overall this is an exceptional big screen phone

For the vast majority of people including power users this is going to be the top model worth considering and finally the galaxy s 10 5g which is basically a widow galaxy s 10 plus plus it'll launch later in the year in the u.s. Korea and a handful of other countries where early 5g networks will be available the screens bigger still than the s 10 plus 6 point 7 inches diagonally largely to accommodate a huge 4500 million power battery to fire up those power-hungry 5g radios there's only one SKU of galaxy s 10 5g that's with 8 gigs of RAM and 256 gigs of

Storage but with no microSD expansion which is a bit of a weird side grade considering that 512 is available for the standard Galaxy S 10 whether you should buy any 5g phone in 2019 is extremely questionable early 5g networks are going to be expensive and extremely geographically limited and for the vast majority of us just not worth the trade-offs outside of its next-gen Celje capabilities yes 10 5g posts a fourth career camera a new time-of-flight sensor that's dedicated a depth detection it works a little differently

To a standard secondary depth-sensing camera in a lot of phones and it's supposed to be a lot more accurate determining the depth of your subject meanwhile that tof sensor has been supplanted in the secondary camera around the front as well giving you more advanced depth sensing in both directions well honestly the only real reason to consider the s10 5g when it goes on sale is gonna be the bigger screen and the larger battery both of these go as step beyond the s10 plus and some people will definitely want that but by the time the s10 5g does go on

Sale presumably at a price far beyond even the s10 plus as one thousand US dollars will be rapidly approaching Galaxy Note 10 10 5 G a very hard seller indeed that's gonna wrap up our quick look at which Galaxy S 10 is right for you if you pick one up let us know in the comments how you're getting on and be sure to subscribe for more s10 videos thanks for watching and I'll see you next time you
