Fossil Smartwatch Gen 5 Complete Walkthrough: New Flagship WearOS Watch?

by birtanpublished on October 2, 2020

The company behind one of my favorite budget smartwatches the fossil sport you can check out like below to that if you want to check that out just release their fifth generation of their flagship SmartWatch this is the new fossil Carlile HR and since I have one figured I try to do a complete walkthrough on it for you guys now if you guys aren't familiar complete water for those channels where I try to go through every single feature I possibly can out a new device so that you guys are better prepared should you be in the market to actually go buy one with that said there's a lot to go through so let's get

Started with the hardware personally this is really the fossil watch Gen 5 the carlyle HR that I have here and the Guiliana HR now as far as I can tell the only differences are the colors regardless of the colors that you want to choose there is only one size option 44 millimeters which when matched with a pre slim bezels on the thing I think it's actually a pretty good middle-of-the-road size now besides those stainless steel color options for the cases you have band options as well we have brown leather dark stainless steel and black silicon for the Carlisle

Or a dark woven band gold stainless steel or pink silicon for the Juliano it does however thankfully support quick-release 22 millimeter bands so you can easily go on Amazon or wherever and buy your own bands for them now I've always been a fan of fossil smartwatches and their subsidiary companies like Skagen because of their minimalistic and simplistic style they're slim clean looking and lightweight and the new gen 5 of the fossil watch is no different light enough to work out with but heavy enough that you still feel like you're wearing a proper watch this new watch is

Also swim proof up to three ATMs or three times the normal atmospheric pressure that is slightly less than the five ATM that we're used to seeing on a lot of flagship watches but it's still plenty enough for you to do laps or even go for a swim if you ask me and they even now have a speaker included something that the Gen four watches didn't one of the things you can now do because of that speaker is take calls on the watch Dick Tracy style which I find awkward but maybe that's just me and for the first time on a wear OS watch apparently you can also do this while

Connected to an iPhone and not just an Android phone this is made possible thanks to the custom software that fossil has added to where OS to allow for better iPhone integration at the time of me doing this video though it wasn't quite ready so unfortunately I can't sure that just yet now the screen is a 1.2 8 inch round amo LED touchscreen that you can use to interact with the watch along with the three physical buttons we have two push buttons that you can actually go into settings and customize which app each of those launched and then we have

A third middle one that is also a turnable crown that you can use to more easily navigate things on the screen for sensors we have a heart rate monitor that can be used with google fit it'll even take your heart rate automatically every 20 minutes or so and then you can tap the heart rate icon to have it take it manually we also have NFC so you can tap your watch to a terminal to pay using google pay or a similar account we have GPS built-in an altimeter accelerometer gyroscope ambient light sensor and a microphone to powering the watches the Qualcomm Snapdragon wear

3100 chipset that was released not too long ago as a where OS specific chipset that is paired with one gig of ram and 8 gigs of internal storage the storage allows you to download songs to your device for example so you can play music from it by a bluetooth without needing to bring your phone with you for better way we have a 310 milliamp battery that it's fast charging cable and can apparently get the boss'll watch to 80% in 50 minutes be sure to subscribe to the YouTube channel for my real road test video coming on it soon that'll actually use to test how long that

Battery actually lasts now for software we are running the latest version of where OS so any other where OS watch is going to work very similarly if you aren't familiar though I'll quickly run through the basics now when you wake the watch you'll be greeted by your chosen watch face which sort of acts as your home screen you can tap and hold on this screen to get all of the watch faces you currently have installed and swipe between them to choose different ones you can also slide all the way to the right tap that and find new watch faces to install as well in the screen you can

Also tap the gear icon under any of these to be able to customize that watch face each watch face has its own options think adding widgets for your upcoming events shortcuts to work out etc so I mean or the left gives you your Google assistant section that you can tap to talk to the assistant like you would on your phone you can also hold down the crown for this shortcut as well by the way and scroll through the list of upcoming cards for events traffic etc also like you have on your phone sliding down from the top brings you to your quick settings to turn on and off

Various items control music from etc and if you swipe down further you can tap the gear icon to get into all of the watch's settings so I being to the right range of the newer tiles section you can continue to swipe to the right to get to each of the tiles that range from google fit to the weather to your upcoming events news headlines etc and you can even tap and hold in here to customize the order and choose which ones show up swiping up from the bottom gives you the big reason that I use smartwatches for notifications do you then swipe any of

Them away to dismiss them or tap on them to expand them and be given more options to interact with them for example reply with canned responses so I put the keyboard or talk to the watch to compose a message archive an email etc pushing in on the crown while on the watch face will bring you to your installed apps and you can tap and hold on any of them to pin them to the top of the list by the way otherwise pushing the crown on any other screen will bring you back to the watch face sort of like a return to home button now again all of that is very standard fare for where OS and will

Be the same for the most part across anywhere I wasn't able to watch but fossile did add a few extra features using their own software namely that better iPhone integration that I've already mentioned but can't test on this version of the software and we also have a collection of extended battery modes now since as I kind of hinted at but this is running pre-release software not everything was working it so stay tuned for when I do that real road test and get to test it all properly and again subscribe if you're not already but the concept behind these battery modes at

Least we can go through essentially you choose from three different options to adjust how the watch uses the battery and thereby hopefully extending it beyond where OS is traditionally not great amount of time by swiping down from the top of the watch you can then tap on the battery icon and choose from the following daily mode which essentially lets all the features work and is the default mode which will have the least battery life extended mode which disables always-on display turns off touch tilt to wake turns off Wi-Fi and the speaker and disables the okay

Google hot war detection but still leaves notifications heart rate and everything else running normally and lastly we also have time only which does what you think it would it limits the watch to only be able to tell the time in there by increasing battery life for up to a week supposedly now the watch is available starting now for two hundred and ninety-five dollars I'll leave a link below to where I found the best price that I could on it you check that out if you're interested in learning more nope you guys like that if you did please

The sheriff's greatly appreciated also share the link in the description where you can subscribe to my email newsletter goes out once a week it has all the videos that I do here on YouTube plus other things like tips and tricks and techniques that doesn't necessarily make it here to video appreciated as always though regardless thanks for watching
