CLIP: Andrew Kramer: Ways to Stand Out!

published on July 18, 2020

You know this kind of goes to you know the idea of standing out and how do you get people to notice your work you know like she's going to impede her Quinn here where is he and hand up Peter Quinn I was going to use him as an example because he made a very clever very fun

Demo reel anyone see this it was this spoof demo reel of sort of the cliches of design anyone see this I was going to play it but I don't want to be like hey that's my work I'm like sorry it's a spoof of copyright infringement

Take it easy joke uh no but he create this demo reel and it showed a lot of the tropes of design like a planet and like like a hipster room I don't nobody called it but just here's the thing it was extremely well done all right it

Kind of made fun of some of the tropes but it was like this guy's pretty good this is good stuff this is high quality stuff so and I think got like it's got like over five hundred thousand views a lot of people checked it out I'm sure

You know he's got some work at it right she said yeah see one guy said I'll hire you uh but the point is he did something clever he did something original and he got noticed for it you know now if I do that I'm like oh man that's a great idea

I'm gonna do the exact same thing he did is that going to stand out as much as what he did so the advice would be to try to think of a unique way to get your idea out there you know I ran into somebody just had just an after party of

Some event and he was like Andrew you know I'm learning after-effects I'm learning 3d and you know I want I need I need to get a demo reel together you know I need a demo reel and like I have to and I need to like hurry and get done

Fast like what do you recommend and I said well how much time you guys are like three or four months right so I said forget about a demo reel don't do a demo reel I said just make one video make like 125 second video that's like

Awesome like just it could just be the style like a cool thing that inspires you you know like a cool video with some cool sound design music like something that people it's a head you guys see this guy's think it's really cool and

He's like I don't I don't think that'll work I just want to have I don't have a generic demo reel like everyone else like go with that uh no the last part didn't happen also the whole story's made up
