Best Camera for Youtubers!! – Fuji X-T4 vs Sony a6600

by birtanpublished on November 28, 2020

Tech family g'day it's josh and today we've got a really fun video in store because i need your help to determine whether we should upgrade the cameras for this youtube channel so i'm going to film this entire episode on two different cameras and at the end of the video i want to know from you which one you prefer do you like this one or do you like this one post it in the comments below now here's the reveal on this side we have the sony a6600 hello and on this side we have the fuji xd4 hi these are both aps-c

Size sensor cameras that means their sensor is smaller than full frame now full-frame cameras do pick up more light because obviously their sensor is bigger what that means is they're going to be better in low light and they have a wider field of view but these aps-c size cameras win out in the following way they've got a really good balance of performance to price the price is much cheaper than full-frame cameras especially if you include the lenses and they're very portable so when i

Decided to start the youtube channel i did a lot of research myself and i ended up landing on the sony a6400 which is the older version of the one i'm filming on right now and of course i bought a bunch of lenses for it but i like to take photos and i work super hard seriously i get very little time off and when i do have time off i like to go outdoors take some beautiful pictures and a lot of my friends and family in fact most of them live in australia i don't go to

Australia that often and when i do i want to take some really nice pictures for the memories with that being said i found on my sony a6400 that the pictures just weren't that nice in fact i'm going to go as far as saying i really haven't ever seen nice pictures taken from the sony a6400 and the main problem i have with it is the colors when i take pictures i personally find there's a slight orange tone to them now of course i

Could edit the raw files and change the colors but honestly i just don't have that much time for that sort of thing so i did research on youtube just like everyone does to find out what would be a better camera for photography and i landed on fuji i just fell in love with the fuji colors seriously now at the beginning of the year i had a major personal milestone and i wanted to buy myself something to celebrate that i would hold on for some time

So i bought the fuji xt3 the older version of the xc4 i'm filming on now and a bunch of lenses but when i last traveled to australia i found i actually had to bring two camera setups the xt3 doesn't have a screen that enables you to see yourself while filming so i had to bring a sony setup with me as well and the reason being if i wanted to cover some tech news on the channel i would have to film myself while away and i couldn't do that on the xt3 the sony's of course have a complete flip up screen so i can see myself while

Filming however while i was away fuji announced their new camera the xd4 which has a flip out screen so i can see myself while away so i returned the xd3 and bought the xd4 which i'm filming on right now but i consider myself a bit of a minimalist i want to have the least amount of material possessions possible to produce high quality videos so why would i have two camera setups the fuji for photography and the sony for videos i would love to just get down to one setup so that's

What this video is all about because i need your help to determine can i shoot just off fuji for my youtube channel so let's get started what do you think of the colors do you like the fuji better or do you like the sony now on sony i actually film on picture profile 10 which is a log picture profile and then color grade in the edit now on the fuji i'm hoping that i wouldn't have to do that step because it has this profile called a turner which apparently straight out of

Camera has really great colors which is what i'm filming on right now so that could save me some time the other thing of note is you're probably noticing a little bit of a difference in the focal length i probably look a little bit more zoomed in on the fuji than i do on the sony and the reason is the sony is being filmed on the sigma 30ml focal length f 1.4 lens now on the fuji they don't have an equivalent prime lens to that sigma lens so i'm filming on a 35mm lens so that's going to be a bit more zoomed in if the

Cameras are at the same distance so what i've done to try and negate this for you is bring the fuji back a little bit and the sony in front a little bit hopefully i look somewhat similar between the two but that will explain the difference for you all so here's the b camera angle on both of these two systems the fuji and the sony now several people have said that they don't like this camera angle however i really do like it as it enables me to suddenly zoom in to

Reinforce a point and it makes the videos look more professional because i can hide the cuts one thing that i wanted to mention about the fuji is it does give me some room to grow because the fuji does enable me to shoot 10-bit color to an external device whereas the sony only enables me to shoot 8-bit color now right now i'm doing everything in 8-bit but it's nice to know that i can experiment a little bit with 10-bit on the fuji the next thing i want to do is head outside and test the run and gun

Setup on both these cameras because both of them have in-body image stabilization wow it is a beautiful day here in new york city and here i am on the sony a600 now this body does have in-body image stabilization but the lens doesn't it's the sigma 16 millimeter f 1.4 a very popular lens for youtubers and vloggers how does it look does it look stabilized now one thing i would like to mention is that the sony already ran out of batteries and it filmed the same amount as the fuji so let's swap over to the fuji

To see if it has any battery life left how does it look compared to the sony same setup stabilization in the body no stabilization in the lens now a couple of points about the fuji it does seem like the battery lasts a little bit longer i haven't had to charge the battery or replace it yet compared to the sony plus it does charge a lot faster than the sony though sony takes forever to charge the battery now a couple of points against the fuji it does get a lot hotter

After recording 4k for some time which might explain the record limits i really don't like that point about the fuji that i can only record for about 30 minutes the sony is much better in that regard and just one more test i wanted to show you guys is how does the sony perform with a stabilized lens now originally i was shooting off the sony a6400 which doesn't have stabilization in the body so i bought this lens and i did a video on it to show that it was the most stabilized lens out there for the sony

E-mount system at least the aps-c ones so how does it look how does it compare to the fuji does having a stabilized lens with a stabilized body make things better all right and we're back now i know i'm not a cinematographer but i have used both of these cameras extensively for making videos plenty of them on youtube and taking photos so i now want to share a bunch of things that i've learned on these two cameras let's start with autofocus the fuji is

Far worse than sony it frequently does this thing called focus breathing which is where i suddenly become out of focus and then go back into focus i have tried a variety of different lenses and it occurs on all of them i even bought the new 35mm f2 lens which people claim is excellent for video but the same thing occurred on that lens the next thing that i wanted to mention is that the fuji lenses can be quite loud for video you can really hear the focus motors going

As it's trying to focus this can be really distracting especially if you move around a lot in your videos now i did try as i said the 35mm f2 the newer fuji lens and it didn't have this problem it was pretty quiet but i thought i'd mention it just in case you're planning to make videos off fuji using some of those older lenses that do have this problem now i haven't noticed this issue at all on sony all of the sony lenses that i've used have been very very quiet even the lens is designed for sony by other companies like sigma

Onto processing power and i do find that fuji turns on faster from a cold start when you power it on but the sony tends to store images faster i know this seems a bit weird but it really does i've noticed numerous times on the fuji where it just says storing after i've filmed a video or taken some photos and i wait a while i don't have this on the sony let's talk about batteries and both of these models do have bigger batteries in the prior generation the fuji xd4 does charge a lot faster than the sony a600

Battery that battery takes forever to charge when it comes to exposure settings i prefer the fuji all of them are controlled in these dials they're really easy to see on the top and front of the camera on the sony they're all controlled in different ways such as the aperture shutter speed and iso if you want to change the iso you press a menu button and scroll through it's just not as usable as on the fuji the other thing i really like about the fuji is having a d-pad

This enables me to easily move where the focus is going to be on the sony you can do it but it's using a dial that's actually used for something else so it's a little bit tricky on how to do it let's now talk about ergonomics and that's where i prefer the sony over the fuji the main reason is that the sony has a flip up screen and the fuji has a flip out screen so when i'm filming low down like i frequently do i'm holding the camera like this and i'm looking down at it with the sony i can just flip the screen

Up like this to see what i'm doing but on the fuji the screen flips out so if i'm shooting low down i can only hold it with one hand which i find uncomfortable that being said the one thing i do like about the fuji is having the sd cards on the side on the sony i literally have to take the camera off the tripod to access the sd cards which is annoying so let's wrap up both of these are excellent cameras i'm very lucky to have each of them however they're not perfect and they each have different pros and cons but

What i want to know is which do you prefer do you like the fuji or do you like the sony let me know in the comments below anyway folks that's all for today if you like this video you know what to do smash that subscribe button click the thumbs up and the notification bell it shows your appreciation for the incredible amount of work that goes into making these until next time i will catch you later
