Best BUDGET Lenses for YOUR Sony A6400!

by birtanpublished on May 6, 2021

I'm currently recording on what I think is one of the best budget lenses of a series of amazing budget lenses that you could absolutely get for your Sony camera what is it you probably already looked at the thumbnail in the title let's find out what's up everybody I'm the everyday dad and if I can figure it out you can figure it out and welcome back to budget video production this is the show every Saturday when we talk about how you can increase your online video production for as little amount of money as possible because they none of us made a money especially not me probably not you if you are once you up

To every day dad out or make your own video showing like your super red set up and then I'll check that out because I love checking out camera gear videos so today we're going to talk about three lenses you could almost call them like the Holy Trinity of lenses for the Sony aps-c system and it is kind of what you think it's gonna be and it's kind of not at the same time so I do think these Sigma 16 millimeter 1.4 these Sigma 30 millimeter 1.4 are two of the best lenses ever made I mean for the price and functionality you cannot get much better than these lenses but the third

Lens you might be like everyday dad you probably talked about that Sigma 56 millimeter lens nope I'm not because I don't really do pictures and I'm like I have to be kind of close to the cameras right because I'm an online content creator and I'm gonna say it's the actual it's the 16 to 50 kit lens that Sony produces that this look how small this thing is it's a power zoom that's this small much more on this later so to start off let's talk about lens selection right so I'm a big fan of prime lenses this is a prime lens this is not a prime lens cuz I don't know I

Just I'm really starting to fall in love with the 12 to 35 from Panasonic so not ever not everything has to be a prevalence but I'm a big fan of shooting of prime lenses I'm a big believer in moving the camera to crop it in I don't necessarily like zooming and because you can get a prime lens you can get nice shallow depth of field they're really great in low-light because they're generally have a wider open aperture so it'll let more light in and you get nice shallow depth of field because everybody likes shallow depth of field so let's start off talking about the Sigma 16

Millimeter 1.4 this is a 24 millimeter full-frame equivalent lens with a 1.4 aperture so it is crazily well-constructed this is I mean it's a bigger lens for an aps-c camera but you get a lot of value out of it it's got a 67 millimetre filter thread so if you want to use ND filter on this bad boy you'll need these 67 millimeter kind it's got full auto focus functionality when you're using sony lenses they also make a series of this they also make this contemporary series of lens for micro four-thirds which it's the exact

Same piece of glass with Micro Four Thirds adapter on the end instead of a sony e-mount adapter lens on it but because of the bigger crop on Micro Four Thirds cameras this ends up being a 32 inch millimeter equivalent instead of a 24 millimeter so it's not as wide this is the sigma contemporary line which means it's good i would argue that this is darn near as good as their art line which is one of their more higher-end line of lenses this lens is razor sharp it's got a crazy shallow depth-of-field it's got the sony e-mount with the electronics you get full electronic

Control you can control the aperture the autofocus everything through the lens can be controlled with the sony body which is pretty impressive and you can get one of these for ding amount of dollars now we're not just going to talk at this lens all day I'm just going to show you the construction first and then we're gonna go outside and I'm going to show you some samples of each lens but lists can you hear that you can't because the smooth the focus is very smooth it is the more expensive of these two lenses because the next one we're going to talk about is the Sigma

30 millimeter 1.4 which is the same like I said earlier it's the same contemporary line of lenses from Sigma this one has a 52 millimeter filter thread if you want to use nd because one of the things about having an F 1.4 lens that means it will let a whole lot of light in and you should probably be using nd if you're going to be using these outdoors heck even with a big studio light like these indoors if you've seen my last few videos I've had an ND filter on this thing I can keep me separated from this background right here and this is fantastic again you can

See that it's got full electronic control that'll work through these sony e-mount so one of the big surprises about these Sigma lenses is normally when you adapt glass or you use a third-party lens the autofocus can be it can be spotty but the autofocus combined with a sony camera is just like rock-solid like there's a that people use the Sigma 18 to 35 there's a reason they use these prime lenses on these Sony bodies because it just works fantastic and you can see the size when you put it on the a 6400 so again you guys have all heard me talk

About the a6 400 I think it's a fantastic camera in this 30 millimeter which is a 50 millimeter ish equivalent of a full frame fits really really darn well on here so for size comparison that was the 30 let's put on the 16 millimeter which does make it a bit bulkier a bit more awkward to hold but to get a 24 millimeter equivalent which is a very wide field of view that's really awesome in a package like this like 24 millimeters you can easily do vlogging you can do stuff where you're looking at the camera with hand width without having too much of a problem on

It so again we'll show you that here in just a second but the big star that I want to talk about that I don't think it's enough love and is one of the best lenses of the Sony ecosystem especially for video for photography I don't know maybe this corners are soft and they're out of whatever photographers whatever photographers talk about but I love look how small this lens is this is a 16 250 now it's not as fast it doesn't have this wide open apertures these two lenses look you can see it's 3.5 at the wide and 5.6 to the zoom so it won't you'll need a little more light to use

This or if you're outside you'll get less of a shallow depth of field but I just I cannot get over how small this lens is and it's a power zoom again full autofocus functionality this has this is cute I hold on right here I want to show you this this lens does have a filter fed on it and it takes the most adorable ND filters I mean look look at how cute that ND filter is like it I love using this thing because it's just I would you would not think a lens of this size would have a filter thread on it but it does have it does have a forty point five millimeter filter thread so

Adorable I love using this thing go check this out so this is the size of a prime lens you get roughly 24 millimeter equivalent 1.4 that's it no zoom this look at that boom this is basically like a point-and-shoot camera like for size comparison I can't show you because we're using it the rx100 mark 5 is not much bigger than this especially when you're use like this gives you such great versatility and reach the autofocus is great the image quality is great the zoom is super quiet the autofocus is quiet and look how small it's got

Built-in stabilization these lenses do not have stabilization built into them but this I love this lens people need to talk more about this lens even it's old it's not like the sexiest Sony lens out there but I love this Lim so we've been talking at these lenses enough what I want to do now we're gonna hop outside and I'm gonna show you what the image quality looks like on all three so you can compare decide which one you should get because I think you should get all three but it's okay I keep talking let's hop outside and we will check out see how they look so for

Starters remember how we were talking about the 30 millimeter is a 50 millimeter equivalent well this is the video quality on the 30 millimeter Sigma 1.4 now why do you want 50 millimeter well like you can see here I'm actually pretty far away from the camera so here's me coming to touch it and now look look now you see like all this don't look at that no look at that but yeah 50 millimeters is more of like a natural-looking focal length instead of having everything really distorted it brings everything up makes it look more like the center like the sharpest part

Of your vision so this is a very budget way to get that kind of a video quality another big benefit the tighter in that you make your lens like this the farther in it zoomed it pulls up the background a little bit so you can also get some nice compression and that 1.4 I mean we do have an ND filter on it cuz it is still kind of bright outside but that 1.4 gives you that crazy shallow depth of field and that's what everybody wants right now I mean when I saw Infinity endgame I could tell that they were using like super large format sensors because everything looks super

Blurry that's how you can tell you a professional write blur so this has been the 50 millimeter this is actually if of all the lenses were talking about today this is my favorite one and this is the one that I use most often but now let's switch to the and this is that 16 millimeter 1.4 and I know everybody thinks that this is the like the most popular of the lenses I really I mean I think that 30 millimeter is the best value in the Sigma lineup this one though that 24 millimeter gives you a nice wider field of view so this is roughly the same shot I'm in the same

Like framing that you saw earlier but now I can actually touch the camera I'm way closer to the camera and what that does for you is it lets you get a wider field of view so this is about where I was standing earlier so now you see we've got so much room for activities look at that look at that but when you're closer I mean it does give you a little more things the difference you'll see though is the backgrounds pushed back a little bit more it's not as compressed and even my face right now it looks a little differently then you saw just a few

Seconds ago as the camera widens it makes faces look all weird it's not as bad like right now like this is as close as I could get that's what my nose looks over here again don't look but yeah this is the Sigma 16 millimeter 1.4 which looks like a 24 millimeter on a full-frame camera again blurry background because that 1.4 and Aniyah looks good I do just these are the but there's a reason that I gush about these lenses because they are absolutely fantastic and like I said about the autofocus they work perfectly well with this Sony

Autofocus like the Sony autofocus in my opinion is better than dual pixel like everybody talked about canons don't fix a lot of focus sony has beaten them right now with their new the new autofocus is insane but those are the two primes now okay and now we are on the 16 to 50 Sony lens so now we're on the 16th so we're in the exact same like shot that we just saw a second ago it's a 3.5 instead of a 1.4 so the background is not going to be a shadow you're gonna see a lot of this gross Hill that's in my backyard you're gonna see more of

That but the benefit of this lens is it has stabilization and it's crazy small like you saw inside but the coolest part is it zooms and now we're at the 30 millimeter or 50 millimeter equivalent with the same lens yes it's probably around f5 I did brighten it up a little bit so you can actually see what's going on but again let's put it all the way now I'm really far away from the camera and the fact that you get all of this functionality from that one tiny lens I don't think the 16 250 gets enough credit so that's why these are the three I know everybody talks about the Sigma

Lenses but they're in there great like we saw they're great but this kit lens also fantastic so what are your favorite budget lenses or what are the lenses that you use for your Sony equipment leave a comment below I'd love to have a conversation with you on what your favorite budget lenses are thanks for watching
