Beats Solo Pro Headphone Hands-On Review | The Beats Go On

by birtanpublished on May 18, 2021

Hello beats spin a minute and by a minute I mean it's been like years since I reviewed a beats product we did recently do the beats power beats Pro those turned out pretty good so I'm hopeful that these will be excellent as well but in the past like all the beats products were just basically the same really nice design same bassy sound kind of in the middle of the market in terms of performance but at the top of the market in terms of price so it's hard to recommend them I'm hoping that this will be different these are the beats solo Pro of course they come on the heels of the beats solo 3 Wireless what does the

Pro mean well we're gonna explore that in just a moment but first let's get these out of the box ok so here's what comes in the box the first thing I notice is that this case is not at all protective it's very soft normally these things are built like tanks so I don't know how much protection you would actually need for the headphone but man it feels good then we have USB a 2 lightning not USB see that's definitely an Apple thing and then a carabiner cuz you just can't not have a carabiner with your headphones some stickers and a user guide and some other product literature

That we probably need so let's get to the headphones we ordered ours in beautiful baby blue because why not I'm tired of black and white headphones so to turn these on all you have to do is pop them open that is the power button in fact there's only two buttons on these one here which is gonna turn on or off the noise canceling and by the way when it turns off the noise canceling it actually ports sound through to you they call it transparency at Apple but really it's the same as if you covered the ear cup on the Sony 1000

Xm3 and then there is the beats button here on the left ear cup we're just going to do things like play pause skip depending on how many times you click it I dig the way these headphones feel and I mean I always have with the beats but the matte finish is exceptionally nice this is a very eye-catching color as well the hinge for me is a little on the stiff side not so much when you're doing it like this but when you've got them on your head and you're trying to get them sized you really got to pull down to get them into place it's a little thing now let's talk about comfort for a second

And let's just recognize that everybody head is different so the way they feel for me is gonna be different than the way they feel for you but yeah it's an on-ear headphone right so if you're okay with that constant pressing up against your ear then maybe you'll enjoy these I'm not a big fan of on ear headphones I prefer an over ear or around the ear if you prefer to call it that which doesn't involve pressing up against me at all so I will say this the clamping force is not massive but you definitely know that they're on your head it's not like you forget that you're wearing them as you

Do with like the Bose ANSI 700 or the Sony 1000 XM 3 that I mentioned before you definitely know that they're there so take that for what it is but they are light the one thing that I do not care for is the way the material of the headband feels on my hair it kind of kind of pulls it around a little bit again these are little things I don't enjoy wearing them that's all I'm saying but I'm not saying that everybody else is gonna feel that way okay I'm just kind of persnickety that's how I am battery life is fine it's not as good as

The competition about 20 hours with noise cancelling on 40 if you turn it off but nobody's gonna do that and 10 minutes of quick charging get you 3 hours of playback time now the next thing we need to talk about is noise cancelling because I think that's part of what makes them Pro the noise canceling technology and then also the sound quality of supposed to be more balanced so as for noise cancelling I mean it's there it's happening but it is not nearly as effective as the Bose or the Sony that I mentioned before and I keep bringing those up because they are

The reference standard right and we also we're talking about a $300 pair of headphones so we want them to perform that way I think for everyday use like Apple positions these as being for creators and giving them a space to create by removing all the outside noise and making things quiet by the time you pipe music through these you're definitely not hearing much around you but if we're trying to compare these to something that a business traveler would use on a plane they are not going to be nearly as good for that kind of use as the aforementioned Sony and Bose

Headphones or any number of the other ones that do a better job of cancelling out that kind of noise but when we get to the sound quality I have some pretty good things to say I like the way they sound I've always complained that Beats headphones were tube AC that they over juiced the treble that they were a little bit on the harsh side trying to be flashy these are way more balanced just as Apple said they got it right now there's still a little bit of a bump to the bass they aren't what an audiophile would call like a

Flat headphone we're ideally it's not adding to or taking away from the source signal but it's not super in-your-face like it was before and it's definitely not burying anything else the mid-range is in fact fairly transparent I listen to a lot of jazz big band all kinds of stuff with horns and vocals and I just don't feel like I miss anything the sound quality is really good now I haven't spent a lot of time going back and forth between these and the Sony and the Bose kind of characterize where it sits among those particular models but I can say though since I've only been

Listening to these for a couple of days is that I haven't found any problems nothing has jumped out at me and said man that's bad it's just an enjoyable listening experience you know what that is just fine for the people who want to purchase these headphones I think Beats headphones appeal to a very specific kind of customer it you want Beats for specific reasons and the solo Pro deliver on all of those they've got a great feel they've got a great look now they have really good sound and adequate noise canceling for 300 bucks I think that you get what you pay for out of

These yes they're charging a premium and they can because their beats folks thanks as always for watching leave me a comment down below and let me know if you're a beats person a bose person a Sony person or if you just don't care about noise canceling headphones at all like subscribe hit that notification bell so you know when I'm coming out with a new video and as always you'll find the best tech news and reviews at digital trends calm you
