48 hours with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2! Is it worth $2000?

by birtanpublished on October 4, 2020

But other than that i mean i'll be doing a lot of this at home wait that doesn't sound right is that worth two thousand dollars the galaxy z fold two by the way just gonna call it the galaxy fold two the name is too darn long and ridiculous galaxy fold two two thousand dollars an innovative phone the second generation of a phone that came out last year definitely better probably in every single way which is great it's definitely a solid product and something i've been waiting for for quite a while even before they announced

It when the galaxy fold one came out one of the first things i said was that looks amazing i can't wait for the second generation the first generation of any type of phone typically has issues and as we saw when the galaxy fold tried to come out you know right before they released it and all the problems they had it was a good thing that i waited and now this thing is pretty beautiful i've learned a lot of things about this i just want to be very clear this is not a review my review of this phone will come

After a while in a couple of weeks i want to spend more time with it i've had about 48 hours with this thing and i already have some very definitive and really kind of interesting thoughts about this there are some things that i kind of knew going into it some things that i was surprised by and a question that i never thought i would have after using this for two days and i'll tell you all about it right after this up players welcome back and for all you

New people welcome my name is travis and i do tech videos every single week and have a blast doing them if that sounds like fun to you sit back relax and enjoy the video anything i talk about will be in the description below but for now let's just get into the video the galaxy fold 2 something that i man i've been waiting for for a long time especially since the galaxy fold came out and had all those issues immediately i knew that i was going to wait for this version and i'm glad i did this thing

Is absolutely incredible i'm going to talk to you a little bit about the things that i have kind of already experienced with this phone and the things that are thoughts of mine that i know some of you are straight up not going to agree with let's start off with do i even need this as a tech youtuber first of all for any of you out there a 2 000 phone sounds ridiculous and it kind of is this is basically a parlor trick that ends up becoming kind of useful but the whole point of it is to

Stretch technology to another level i actually went into a carrier store when they hadn't even had these yet and brought in a nikki new 5g sim because this uses 5g and they hadn't seen it before and they were mesmerized there was a person there that only uses iphones and was considering swapping to something like this but what does this really mean what is this phone really all about it's a technology that may be the next thing but there's something that has struck me

About this ever since i started using it that i couldn't shake and i finally put into words earlier today and i got to tell you a lot of you are not going to agree with me on this but it's my thoughts and feelings on this so i'm going to tell you what it is i don't think this is a phone i i really don't like no part of this to me feels like a phone well some of it does and you might be wondering what in the world are you talking about well there's a lot of things about this that

That are different than a phone now here's the thing some of you are going to hear that statement and think oh you're wrong forever you check youtube i don't want to hear it this is my experience to me this doesn't feel like a phone it feels like something else that's neither good nor bad it's just different i believe it represents the next level of a mobile device so because in my mind and certainly the way i've been using it it doesn't feel

Like a phone this can't be my main phone as shocking as that may seem this is really a computing device of some sort it's a next level mini tablet with kind of a phonish thing once it's when it's closed but here's the problem when it's closed it's clunky as heck it's thick as thick can be three c's on this one and um the screen is really thin now the one thing that i do like about this is with the larger screen on the front it's more usable than last last year's

Version which only had like a 4.6 inch screen it's definitely more usable but it's so narrow that when text is on and it's really kind of small so you you do want to get some use out of the primary screen and i got to be honest i use the i use it folded a lot more than i thought i would but it doesn't feel as functional as a phone and in my mind when it's closed like this it's supposed to be a phone but it's not quite as good as a phone

It's it's so close like it's almost there i don't know how to describe it you're really just going to have to grab one of these and try it and see what i mean it's it's so thick and heavy it doesn't feel like a mobile device carriers and manufacturers have been working together to make some of the lightest thinnest and the most amazing pieces of hardware but this when it's folded is kind of a step back so in that point it can't be my main smartphone it's

It's not a phone to me it just isn't again it's a computing device the magic happens when you open it and at that point it becomes super magical it's basically a small tablet this is a phone and a tablet smacked together a true phablet as they used to call things like the galaxy note this is really what the next generation of galaxy note should be let's get an s pen in this immediately galaxy and samsung lengths let's just get that together and it's because of the

Transition between phone and tablet that make this a next level device a device that's a pure joy to use and more interesting than any flat phone that you can buy this thing is amazing but i almost feel like i'm insulting it by calling it a phone but if i need a phone i wouldn't necessarily take this and there's a lot of reasons for that let's start off with price at two thousand dollars and with no cases available on amazon you can get

Anytime soon at the making of this at the time of the making of this video i'm not taking this thing outside this thing's not going outside i'm sorry it's staying here at home so immediately it can't get my my main sim in it it's just it's not gonna happen i need to be able to feel safe enough that if while opening this thing up i drop it it's not toast and there's plenty of people out there that say it's durable i guess i'm not going to find out i'm not going to find out

This thing is going to be over carpets for a long time until cases come out and then i may take it out every so often other than shooting some of the b-roll for this video this thing is never leaving the house or at least not anytime soon which for me causes a problem some people call this a luxury device because of the price two thousand dollars some people might call it a super high-tech device i believe that the answer is somewhere in the middle this isn't like your main device i believe

Another phone should be your primary phone the thing that gets rugged thrown into your pocket you don't worry about it scratching or anything like that i feel like this is a secondary phone maybe if you're going out somewhere fancy you put away your iphone or your galaxy s20 or something like that and you you break out the fold when you want to flex on people i mean i guess of course this thing can be used as your primary phone but it's so impractical in so many ways

To be a primary phone that i i can't just bring myself to do it this is the thing i'm flexing on the gram with but other than that i mean i'll be doing a lot of this at home wait that doesn't sound right if i'm afraid of the durability of this thing which maybe is wrong maybe this thing is super durable but i'm not gonna find out for two thousand dollars i'm telling you once you have that much money in the palm of your hand that you're carrying everywhere i mean you don't think of it as your normal

Everyday 500 phone or even your thousand dollar flagship phone it becomes something else thank goodness because with some of the features that this thing has and of course i'm going to save a lot of that including a lot of the picture samples and stuff that i've done this thing for my full review so make sure you're subscribed for that but as magical as this thing is i i i it's not my phone it's not gonna be my primary phone here's some of the technical things i found out about this after i bought it number one

While the inside of the screen does have 120 hertz the outside does not i was not aware of that not a huge deal but i think you just expect everything to be smooth 120 hertz especially when you get excited that oh my gosh not only is a huge screen a huge 120 hertz oled screen that's amazing the outside is just it's 60. the fingerprint sensors on the side works excellently i kind of wish there was an in-display fingerprint sensor but the

Side works really well and you can use it to bring down the notification shade which is really kind of cool i love that especially when you're in the folded mode it's really super useful now let's talk about the crease i've got to tell you i agree with all the tech reviewers that say that over time you don't see it samsung did a really smart thing with some of the wallpapers and such to hide that crease and actually even when you're watching videos or anything else you just don't notice it i mean you

Might see it at first because people have pointed it out to you or even in certain angles in the sun or whatever but it's just not a concern at all like it's not anything that i say takes anything away from this phone it's been really awesome and while i've mentioned it already the fact that it's super thick when folded and really heavy overall especially when folded makes it seem like something other than a phone when it's completely flat it's actually quite nice fits in the hands awesome and is just a really spectacular piece

Of hardware i'm actually super happy i got it but this brings up a really really really strange situation that i never thought i would have and a question that i recently started asking myself and i i can't believe i'm here that question is will i keep it this is my return to android from having an iphone for the past year previous to that i was on all the different galaxy notes from the galaxy note 2 to the galaxy note 10

Did the oneplus 7 pro for a while loved all that then went to ios for the last year this is supposed to be my return and i picked this phone because it's so dramatically different than normal smartphones that i thought that would excite me about android again and in a way it kind of has however with it not being completely practical at least for me at least in my mind at least after two days it can't replace my main iphone as my main phone the phone i'm going to take everywhere and

Do everything with so where does that leave me do i really want to have a 2 000 device sitting around my house barely used no will i keep it i don't know i still have some time i'm going to use more time to create the full-on review and at that time we'll make a decision if the galaxy fold 2 stays now after 48 hours i can tell you this if you are a tech head who loves amazing tech has some money to burn or maybe even a

Trade-in that you can use the galaxy fold 2 is awesome it's amazing it's something you need to experience now if you don't buy it you can go to a lot of stores i believe best buy has them out you can play around with them you definitely need to see it in person if you're an android lover samsung lover and you do have the money to spend i absolutely do encourage you to at least try it uh get it somewhere where you have a good return policy just in case you come across the same issues as me there are no cases as of the making of

This video so you are on your own for keeping this thing safe let me tell you something that is anxiety to the 10th degree but tell me in the comments what type of things you want me to cover in the full review which will be coming to the channel in a couple of weeks maybe a week and a half two weeks i just have a lot to think about when it comes to this particular piece of hardware it's a great spectacular success from samsung bravo i actually really enjoy the phone but i'm just not sure

If i'm going to keep it now listen i've been talking about this phone for a while i did a video right here that'll tell you all about it and some other videos down here i'll see you next time peace
