4 times Apple won the decade and 4 times it failed

The 2010's were a big year for tech and an even bigger year for Tech's biggest brand Apple the company had some wins and losses many of which helps shape the decade in technology so here's a look back at how the decade treated Apple first let's start with the wins even though I think we all know fails are a little bit more fun I'm gonna go with the Apple watch as one of Apple's biggest wins in the decade it got the SmartWatch right right out of the gate and today it's still considered the best SmartWatch you can buy from design to functionality the Apple watch rules them all

Just like our next Apple winner the iPad the first Apple iPad came out in 2010 and for the first time people cared about tablets as we look back this is a real design classic and quite frankly it is still today the only tablet really worth owning that's a winner if I've ever seen one our next pick is the App Store think about it what use is your smartphone without apps and where do you get those apps from the App Store of course it seems obvious now but Apple built it and now we take it for granted Apple standards around who can have an app on its App Store may seem

Heavy-handed ly closed and possibly even unfair in some cases but there's an argument that the apps are at least a little more secure for it and finally the iPhone 10 iPhone 10 broke a design materials in software Lo and reinvigorated the iPhones allure setting the stage for the iPhone 11 and 11 Pro which are legitimately competitive phones right now if Apple was stuck being a fast follower and lagging behind an innovation before the iPhone 10 that phone brought the company back and that's a win for sure now no company can always be winning losses

Will happen and Apple had a few of those this past decade as well let's start with something that caught us all off guard here at Digital Trends Apple hailed the death of the headphone jack as a brave move which really riled folks up myself included the design change alienated a lot of people who weren't interested in getting wireless headphones and we're not thrilled about the idea of having to use a dongle to get their wired headphones connected Apple wasn't the first to do this but they were the biggest brand to have made the move and in the end some consumers

Lost while wireless headphones got a big win next up and you remember this the iPhone 4 came out smashed sales records and then people started having problems with dropped calls the issue was that the phone's antennae had been moved to an area with such a small gap of exposure that users could cover it when the phone was held in their left hand the signal decreased to such a large degree that calls would get dropped when Consumer Reports officially stated it could not recommend that smartphone the scandal was galvanized and Apple took a big PR hit

Here's one that went down in history losing an iPhone 4 prototype in a bar a 27 year old Apple software engineer was field testing in iPhone 4 and left it on a barstool after imbibing a tasty German beer why the fact that the beer was German is so important to the story I just really don't know anyway 21 year old Brian Hogan found the phone initially thinking it was no big deal it looked just like an iPhone 3G but after unsuccessfully trying to find its owner he started playing around with the device and realized he had something that he should not have tech sight

Gizmodo got wind of the find and paid Hogan five thousand dollars to get its hands on the prototype the resulting story went viral and got millions of pageviews and goes down in history as one of the worst leaks ever the years between the iPhone 6 and iPhone 10 well not exactly a fail Apple still sold tons of iPhones most would agree this was a rough time for Apple's most popular product the iPhone didn't see much in terms of design improvements and each new version felt like not a huge step up from the prior version when the iPhone 10 came along that was a watershed

Moment for Apple now it's interesting to note that Steve Jobs is passing coincides with this low period as he would have had his last influence on the iPhone 5 series maybe a little on the sixth but from then onward Apple's creative and design teams were without jobs leadership which might explain some of the faltering that's four times Apple one the decade and four times not so much and I think it'll be interesting looking forward to see what Apple has in store for the next ten years hey everybody thanks for watching if you liked this video be sure to hit that
